Never was an RIP thread more justified on here than this one.
Barry Norman was film for someone of my generation.
Before the internet and when it was still just three or four channels he was it. My window to the movies.
Thanks for all the memories.

If ever there was someone who convinced me that I could put fingers to keyboard after watching a movie, it was Barry Norman. He made film criticism informative and entertaining. A genuine one-off.

I didn't agree with his opinion on every movie, but I never missed Film XX when he was hosting it, because whether I agreed with him or not, I always knew from his review whether I'd enjoy it or not.
That for me made him as close to the perfect film reviewer as possible.
RIP Barry! You showed us the way.

A true icon. One of the few programmes I was allowed to stay up late for in early teens in Germany.

RIP Barry.

Sad to hear this. Never missed Film 19** when he was the host, drifted away from it somewhat when he left.

Hahaha, missed this at the time...they have much more explicit tastes over there as my time on guard duty in Germany much later on can attest from the many 'action' films that others would insist on watching...

Jeess, this man was film, always used to get a good critical report on whether to go see a film or not. RIP.
Now it is down to internet reviews, or just desperate to see a specific film
