Yesterday was pointless. The EU won;t accept any alteration to the existing agreement, which was rejected by Parliament a while ago.

As you say it is still a stalemate situation, May is still in a weak position with the EU not interested in negotiation (at the moment). The EU is hoping we get rid of the hard Brexit crash out option soon in the next few weeks,  if they hang on, and that we also accept the backstop. No chance. They are just waiting for the UK to cave in and accept their terms.

As for the Backstop the Irish PM has been in talks with the EU leaders about the backstop not being accepted, it was in the news in an above link about a secondary solution, and what they say is no-one wants a hard border between North and South Ireland, and so the border control for both N and S Ireland would be from mainland Europe, if all else fails. So no N/S Irish hard border needed.

All set up to blame the EU for not giving us what we want.

Look out for newspaper headlines after TM fails. It will all be 'their fault' mixed in with some stuff about how 'we' managed to survive the war, probably with some pictures of Spitfires and misappropriated Churchill quotes.

All helps to push the sheep towards accepting no deal.

The quitters have done a complete about-turn on how this was going to pan out. This is the kind of fatuous stuff they said in 2016 (how was this blowhard ever head of the CBI?)

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker says the Brexit withdrawal deal is the "best and only deal possible".

The withdrawal deal "cannot be renegotiated" and the votes yesterday "do not change that", he says.

Like I said, pointless

Not really.
Just another way to kick the can down the road so it's her deal or jump off the cliff.
