and was one of these used?

a lot of people, for example my next door neighbour still has them dotted round the house, and when I have to retune in his tv etc he says " I know you're not meant to use them....", and then has the cheek to mention tumble driers and that I shouldn't put it on when we go to bed (I don't) or when we go out (that happens sometimes)

"The question is, if every fridge freezer of this particular model were removed from every tower block with combustible cladding, how much safer would those towers be?"

Was it a new fridge freezer?
There's a helluva market in S/H white electrics. You can find a shop selling them within a short stroll of most social housing areas (they know their markets).

It may be easier to try and scapegoat the manufacturer but ultimately I think the blame on this one will end up shared about to the right places.
Too high profile and too much info already out there.

Anyone who has a white Hotpoint fridge freezer model number FF175BP or graphite fridge freezer model number FF175BG should register their appliance with the manufacturer to receive any updates.

Generally, the model number is found on a bar code on a sticker behind the salad container in the fridge.

These models were discontinued in 2009, but 64,000 were sold between March 2006 and July 2009. It is not known how many are still in use.

Camden council have asked 4000 people in 800 homes in tower blocks to leave right now due to unsafe cladding. Council is to make temporary accommodation for them.r

I'm sure that there will be mass demonstrations tomorrow on behalf of the residents...

Cladding is starting to be removed from many tower blocks and may take weeks or months to complete, according to your favorite source, 'The Sun'.

It also shows a diagram of how the cladding spread the fire.

Seems a lot of cladding out there has failed fire safety tests so far:

120 tower blocks tested. 120 tower blocks failed.

Note that this is just testing the cladding to see if it is flammable, not an indication of negligence or failure to follow regulations on the parts of those responsible. It is very likely that this cladding was signed off as being suitable for use, and conformed to whatever regulations applied in these instances. It does not necessarily mean that some cowboy builders skimmed a couple grand by using the wrong cladding.

And no final death toll this year!

That's understandable. The forensic work to establish exactly who died will be on an unprecedented scale. But I still don't get why they don't update the number of missing. As I mentioned before, surely that's something that can be correlated from other sources. Who isn't at school, who isn't at work, who hasn't claimed benefits, whose bank accounts are dormant, who has been reported as missing?

It's amazing that it was signed off by someone, it does seem to be a case of "this is safe to use" rather than someone using knock off cladding to do it cheaper. :(

You say that, but the amount of failures being reported in different local authorities and across different sectors of building suggests something far more endemic than simple greed.

Agree with you on this, even if only an estimate which they can get by simply checking who is registered on the electoral role for council tax purposes.

Suspect the problem may be that there are a number of people who probably shouldn't have been in the building or registered to live there, but that's a separate issue.
