Telephone filter question

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 21st January 2017, 00:12

I have ran a 20M extension cable to daughters bedroom. It plunged direct into a filter that has my internet connection in my study.

(Note: this filter is recessed into the wall with the usual two outlets, one used for internet, and one for telephone unused, but now used for daughters phone)

So I have attached another internet filter ( in line type) at the far end in my daughter's room, and connected her phone.

Question: The phone works OK, with this two filters in series, but do I really need the second filter at the phone end?

I only fitted it because of length of line. I can remove this in line filter in seconds if not needed.

Been hunting the internet for an answer, but get conflicting answers, about whether this second filter is needed or not, or whether it matters or not.

No, it won't do any harm but it also won't do anything else.

Thats what i thought, plus it gives her a hard wired connection to the internet if she wants it, though she just normally uses the wi-fi in the house.

Wait... whut? :o

It gives her a voice line, it doesn't give her internet access. You can only have one ADSL per telephone line, they don't stack. Unless I misunderstand your topology?

It sounds like you have something like this in your study:

And you are running the extension cable from the phone socket of this faceplate?

If so, the extension will only be for the phone (not the internet) and the additional filter is not needed.
