Sadly, all this will do is just entrench his position with his supporters.

He won't pardon Cohen 'cos he's basically rolled on the President. However, Trump has hinted that he'll pardon Manafort because he hasn't been so forthcoming to the prosecution. Pretty despicable stuff. Still hard to believe that this crook can get away with this sort of thing (at least for now).

You're never going to change hardcore voters minds, so they're a lost cause anyway. Most voters aren't hardcore Trump supporters, however.

Realistically he'll be president for the full term (even if impeached) but I'm not convinced he's a good bet for a second term. I think a lot of the massive welfare cuts because of the huge tax cut might start to bite on a lot of the poorer Trump heartlands by then.

Trump is really not good for the UK especially post Brexit. We're a wounded, isolated animal ready to be exploited: "America first", don't forget.

Interesting that this is getting a lot of sympathetic views now, as prior to Trump I seem to recall not many people agreeing with the rather hawkish McCain and vilifying the US for stomping all over the world - not that I'm necessarily disagreeing with that view on the whole...

Strikes me as a tad hypocritical.

I think in recent years McCain changed his views on a number of things, I imagine he became less hawkish than he used to be.

I think the current incumbent has given considerable perspective to the usual right/left wing political viewpoints.
People now seem to be able to view the likes of McCain as merely a patriot with a different view of how to achieve a (mostly) common goal.
Rather than the self serving, narcissistic ......... (fill in your adjectives of choice) who can potentially wreck his country if not the entire civilized world.

That was all over Twitter like a rash yesterday.

I'm developing quite a liking for Ms Daniels and not just the look of her.
The lady's got some guts and a great sense of humour.

Meanwhile... Trump's administration decides the planet is screwed, climate change can't be reversed so let's not care about it:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/trump-administration-sees-a-7-degree-rise-in-global-temperatures-by-2100/2018/09/27/b9c6fada-bb45-11e8-bdc0-90f81cc58c5d_story.html?utm_term=.a0769415eb03

Quote:
A rise of seven degrees Fahrenheit, or about four degrees Celsius, compared with preindustrial levels would be catastrophic, according to scientists. Many coral reefs would dissolve in increasingly acidic oceans. Parts of Manhattan and Miami would be underwater without costly coastal defenses. Extreme heat waves would routinely smother large parts of the globe. But the administration did not offer this dire forecast, premised on the idea that the world will fail to cut its greenhouse gas emissions, as part of an argument to combat climate change. Just the opposite: The analysis assumes the planet’s fate is already sealed.

The draft statement, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), was written to justify President Trump’s decision to freeze federal fuel-efficiency standards for cars and light trucks built after 2020. While the proposal would increase greenhouse gas emissions, the impact statement says, that policy would add just a very small drop to a very big, hot bucket.
