Apparently the pardon train has been de-railed as he can no longer grant them having been impeached.

I don't understand, this is his second impeachment? Is this because it has to be voted on in the Senate and for some legal reason he isn't allowed to until that happens?

Yep, inbetween impeachment and senate approval/rejection he's slightly limited in the things he can and can't do. An impeachment is an implication of illegal activity, so pardoning potential criminals himself is taken off the cards.

Hopefully it'll also stop him signing off on so many death sentences as well. Justice when it's due, but the last 2 have been morally decrepit.

From another forum:

How p***ED are the Republicans that real "Antifa" didn't turn up and rush the Trumper crowd? They were clearly relying on this as part of their overall strategy. The tiny number of cops who couldn't stop grandmas walking past? The repeated refusals of National Guard involvement? No other reinforcements until it was all way too late? Republicans thought they had this planned to look like an Antifa attack on patriot demonstrators until ... Antifa didn't turn up!

Literally, if Trump's plan had come off and Antifa folks had rushed the Trumpers, hundreds on both sides would have died, such was the tiny police presence. The cops would have been powerless. And the storming of the Capitol by the "patriots" would have come closer to succeeding.

Why did Trump fail? Because Antifa clearly have learned how to pick which fights they turn up to and when to just let their enemy make a huge mistake all on their own. Classic Art of War stuff. Well done to all the left activists who decided the best strategy was to stay home, it was a fantastic winning plan, and now the idiots still trying to pretend the attempted coup was anything but Trumpists are just looking stupider and stupider.

I'm not sure there is much clear in this other than Trump is stupid, he stoked up a crowd and encouraged them to march on the Capitol, a bunch of extremists were with them and lots got carried along in the moment thinking they were on the side of good.

I think there was actually a group of police who were doing a very dedicated job holding a line, but they had already broken through elsewhere and they didn't have any idea.

This is a question which does need to be answered! It seems like requests were made and refused at the highest level, and that level being Trumpists he'd installed in positions weeks earlier, I think.

I suspect the main reason Antifa didn't show up that day was, there wasn't any need to. You don't protest when you've already won? :)

Funny thing: if you're on public record as being someone who would wilfully attempt to subvert the wishes of 80 million Americans and try to overturn the results of a democratically held election, the very wealthy companies who regularly donate to your party might not wish to be associated with that type of person for much longer.

Major donors to the GOP are jumping ship faster than Trump's former staffers. The quick downside to this is it shows how much US politics is owned by corporations (duh), but the vastly major upside to this is that the GOP is now so damaged in both reputation and donor-based income, it's going to massively, massively endanger their prospects of fielding viable Senatorial candidates in the mid-terms.

Plus GOP congressmen & women are leaving the party in large numbers, disgusted by the behaviour of the worst of their party, so there's a very good change there won't even be a GOP when the mid-terms come around anyway.

All that lost, by trying to stand by America's biggest loser/liar.

They are a long way away, and corporations do what's in their own self interests. I'm sure a bunch of them will be back in a year if the GOP promise them things and Trump is a distant memory.

Two years away.
The campaigning and most certainly the fund raising never stops so to whatever degree it will affect them immediately.

It appears that Trump has declassified a load of Russia Gate documentation, so will this be a damp squib or something substantial?

This is an interesting move, considering people probably don't care about Hilary since she failed to win the election, and if it does contain something damming that doesn't damn Trump it is encouraging Biden to declassify a bunch more things that maybe do?
