RE: [VIDEO] The Trump Presidency

My big hope is that not only Trump loses, but the Republicans lose both houses, I think that might be the only way they can reign him in for his last two months.

I keep hoping that as a society we will choose the best of us, not the least worst of us, but you know what the MIB says... a person is smart, people are stupid.

Maybe it's just that anyone who wants power shouldn't be allowed it, because as a desire on it's own, it's like fame, it is a singularly selfish desire and appeasing it is entirely a self serving outcome.

As I say to my boys, it won't be enough that he loses. He has to lose hard, to the point of humiliation. But even if that happens, he'll be screaming Fix until the day he carks it.

Fascist rallies?  That's a tad OTT.  They are clearly self-congratulatory, but I would definitely be cautious in throwing that definition about.

But you are right in one respect, why would any floating voter attend rallies for either candidate?  Personally I've never seen the need to attend any political conference or rally and I'm not a floating voter (yet).

If he loses, and all of these stories about his financial situation is true, he might well lose hard.

Even if true, it may all come to nothing and he'll be able to cash in post-Presidency in the same way that Clinton, Obama, Blair, Cameron et al have done...

Personally I find it hard to see that the divisions in both the US and UK are going to be healed with so much intolerance in both countries.

Billy Connolly wasn't it? 'The desire to be a politician should bar you for life from ever becoming one.'

I've nothing against Biden he seems amiable enough but the idea that he, at 74, is the best available Democrat to run the country until he's 78?
That will probably effect his share of the vote as there will be enough savvy voters placing their tick in the expectation, or fear, that they'll end up with a President Harris.
I thinking that it's going to be a closer run thing than I thought and the rows about it will drag on right up until inauguration day.

With my cynical pessimist's hat on I think there are people alive today who will not be by then as a direct result of this election whichever way it goes. Let's hope the numbers are not too high.

That is the fear, isn't it?

We have seen demonstrations in both the US and UK when the results didn't go the way some people liked, we even had demonstrations here against Trump's win fgs (can't imagine anyone organising a demo in the US for a Boris, Corbyn or Starmer win...).

That doesn't even take into account all the BLM-style demonstrations and riots in both countries.  How many deaths this year due to protests against Police brutality?

I wonder if he will though, all of the people you mentioned are politicians, people who make allies, Trump is very good at firing anyone who disagrees with him and making enemies generally. His approach to negotiation is not diplomacy.

People would pay to throw rotten veg at him though.

Ok, change 'facist' to 'cult'.

I'm pretty sure he'll be a popular after dinner speaker in his own circles and with his base.  You and I may not agree with him or his behaviour, but he's popular with a fair few people...
