A video made by a friend's son.  As YouTube switched to HD it was like wiping the grease off from the lens.  Worth going fullscreen.

We stayed at a Travelodge on the other side of the Mersey, down at New Brighton, and visited Liverpool for the first time.

What struck me, was that I always had seen the Liver building in TV shows, but never realised till I got there that the long length of the building is perpendicular to the river. Whereas you would expect an important and prominent river side building to have the longest front parallel with the river. Wonder why that is?  

Also in the video I see the new impressive Beatles exhibition building on the river front, which was not there when we visited. Must go back sometime.

New Brighton's a nice place now.  Did you walk along the front to the Ferry Terminal?
I've never thought (or heard) that the building faces the wrong way.  Supposedly, one bird faces in land to protect the people and the other to the sea (important for a port and livelihood).  Myth has it that the girl bird looks out to sea to see if their sailors are returning - and the male looks inland to see if the pubs are open.
The Port of Liverpool building next to it is maybe my favourite building.
The other building you're talking about is the Museum of Liverpool, not a Beatles exhibition - it's very good.

Yes, walked from New Brighton to the ferry port, to get across the Mersey. Did not realise the new biilding is not just for the beatles, as at the time of build there were loads of posters on its temp perimeter fence of the beatles, but I suppose they were just one part of the story of Liverpool.

As for Liver building orientation, it was just a shock to me being perpendicular to the river, as in your minds eye you know how well known buildings should sit even though you have never been there, and it was to me as though the building had been picked up and rotated ninety degrees LOL!.  

Anyway great flyby video.
