Paypal sending limit?

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Friday, 22nd July 2016, 16:48

I bought quite a dear item at over a thousand quid via paypal this week, and I noticed in my inbox an email from paypal.

"Dear Bandicoot,

We wanted to let you know that you're just £450 GBP away from reaching your PayPal sending limit of £2,078.65 GBP. This is the maximum amount of money you can send or use for purchases before you need to verify your account.

Why do I need to verify my account?

When you join PayPal, we ask for only basic details so you can start using your account straight away. However, we're legally required to confirm certain information about customers who send payments over a certain amount. Once you link and confirm a bank account or get approved for PayPal credit, your account will be verified and you'll be able to make as many payments as you like with PayPal, fee £2 to get verified."

So a bit confused here, does this mean they have been adding up all my spends to date and account will not work once it goes over a total of £2078.65, or it means I cannot buy an item over £2078.65 with paypal unless I get verified?

Looks like phishing to me. Link and confirm a bank account so a third party can drain your account.

Such as...

EDIT: Just saw the thread title. "Paypal sending limit!"

It takes a while for irony to get through the internet...

As Jitendar says, phishing email.

PayPal do not charge for verification, they actually put a small amount of money into your account (a few pence) to verify you, not the other way around.

Hi, got another one of these paypal spending limit emails when I bought something yesterday via paypal.

I decided to phone paypal and find out about this and tell them that its a phishing email.

Anyway, getting to the point, it seems it is an email from paypal even though it looks fishy as ell.

It seems as long as you have funds in your bank account linked to paypal, and can pay for it, and that the item being bought is under £2100 (as in my case) then I can buy from paypal no problem.

But I cannot buy an item greater than £2100 without verification to increase limit. That seems ok to me, as no intention of buying anything greater than £2100 via paypal.
