Big changes to Amazon prime

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Friday, 21st February 2014, 21:04

Quote-
"In 5 days Prime will include unlimited streaming of 15000 movies & tv"
it also says that the price will rise from £49 to £79 in 5 days.
The streaming has been free in USA for a while.
I am tempted but the hugh price increase is off putting.
Anyway, just posting as a heads up to anyone who might have missed it.

Dont Amazon own LoveFilm? That is £6 for Lovefilm Instant, a month, so is this new Prime video service a replacement/rebranding of that ? Not actually a whole lot of info on the site for something that launches in 5 days.  But that would save me money each year having them on one subscription.

Edit. Seems it is all part of a rebrand and I will save money.

That will be really good, I've had Prime for a little while now and LoveFilm...

Not so good for people who couldn't give a stuff about Lovefilm's inferior service though...

So for the equivalent of around £6.58 a month you can have as many free deliveries as you want and a movie or TV prog whenever you feel like it?

I cancelled my last Prime membership due to there being no compensation in place for a failed next day del (if you paid for delivery you got a refund on it, Prime just got another delivery day).
Adding in the movie service means ordering 13 items per year would effectively pay for it if I had paid delivery and add some entertainment.

I just restarted mine as it's still 1 year at £49 if you get in quick.

What's the range of TV on it? Will it be stuff like Game of Thrones? I'm really tempted.

Conversely, I've got a Lovefilm instant and DVD subscription membership. Will I now get a free Prime account?

No, it's the other way round, pay for Prime & get free streaming. Today's the last day toget this for £49, from tomorrow the price goes up to £79

I started the free trial (and immediately cancelled it, good on Amazon for telling you how to do that the moment you sign up), which locks the price at £49.

So I get a month to decide if I want to keep it.

Anyone still on Amazon Prime? Apparently they now have HBO shows on it?
