Dynamo magician on tonight 9PM on Watch channel

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 5th July 2012, 19:49

On again an hour later on Watch +1.

New second series starts tonight. Worth seeing.

This street magician is brilliant, especially his tricks using glass bottles, where he can put big items like Ipods inside the bottle instantly, leaving everyone around him stunned.

Another palour trick is walking through shop window glass from inside shop to outside.

Some tricks are obvious but others are like ..WoW, how did he do that.

What is?  His tricks?  If so, you;re in the wrong game. :)
I do like my magic and the bits I`ve seen of him are stunning.  Saw a brief article recently about him that mentioned the TV show.  I don`t even bother having my Virgin box connected so won`t see it that way....but but will hopefully catch it somehow... :)

Most modern magic tricks are remakes/rehashes of already established illusions. Sleight of hand, palming, misdirection, accomplices in the crowd, coupled with camera trickery (on rare occasions, normally Lance Burton). It`s all about the showmanship and sadly, he just doesn`t do it for me. Nothing against him personally. I`d never say I could do what he does, but that`s not to say I don`t know how he does 90% of it.

For example, and I don;t mean to sound smug, but how he does the first trick with Fearne is so blindingly obvious I`ve done it myself many times, just not in the specific way he`s done it here.

The SECOND trick, however (picking a listener`s choice of card and having it match one in the unopened pack beside him), is much more complex, but it`s entirely possible in a cramped room, where no-one, not even the cameraman, is looking at the pack. Magicians have a method of making a punter choose a specific, predetermined card, called `forcing`. Dynamo`s just shifted that method into the current age, and I wouldn;t even attempt to hazard a guess as to how he did it.

We really like him, and are looking forward to the new series.

I think it helps, that he seems like a nice guy, and doesn`t take his "rags to riches" rise to fame for granted, and appreciates the helping hands he`s had on the way.

As you say, some tricks you can kind of work out, but it`s still pretty amazing even when you know it`s "just" sleight of hand.

Others are just plain funny, such as the one where he makes himself heavy so a really muscular guy can`t lift him :)

A lot of interesting stuff in this first episode.

The only trick tonight that I though was a bit fixed, was right at the end where he dissapears in the shop and his clothes fall to the ground.

When you `slow mo` it, a head gets right in the way at the critical moment, and you feel there has been a cut in the camera shot, to a later time.

Yes, assuming she didn`t actually get a decent look at the card he signed. :)

I can do that one too.  Your `understanding` of how it`s done though is completely wrong though.  There is no `forcing` involved and you can do that for ANY card that she would have picked... :)

I watched the one where she picked a song and don;t know how it`s `done`.  Assuming she wasn`t lying, you can`t get 40/1 chances right all of the time.

How do `we` reckon he does the `heavy` trick?

There`s a way of lowering your centre of gravity so you`re very difficult to pick up. I used to do it to my older brother when I was younger. No idea how I did it, apart from just `thinking` I was heavier. These days I`m 5 stone heavier than him so it`s probably even more difficult!

Doesn`t alter your weight though.  May make it a bit more awkward or clumsy - but nothing close to the extent `shown`..  In fact, without moving much, I can`t see how you can even alter your CoG.

I saw some of the first series but the big hype was over the walking on the thames trick but when watching it I just thought it felt so rigged it took away a lot from it. I was much more impressed with his more basic tricks, a few reminded me of Paul Zenon who I used to like watching as he brought comedy to things too.
