Elictricity now £88 PCM

Yep £88 a month.
I`m with npower and have been since we moved in to our house in 2006. We have just received a letter basically saying that they have screwed up and have been charging us wrong. They mixed up the Day and Night rate and was charging the wrong way round.
Now they have very kindly said that they wont be clawing back all that we owe £1535. (very nice of them)

Now £88 is double what we are paying at the moment and we are hardly well off at the moment so this is a big deal for us. I cant phone them today as its a Saturday so will have to wait until Monday.
The thing that really bugs me is that any idiot could see what day rate and night rate is just from the size of the bloody number.

Anyone any ideas where we stand with this. Will we just have to pay up?

The bast****.

Do yourself a favour and go to this link. It may help. :)

Although I will add, that imho they should accept their part in this and wave the sum. Just imho. It`s their balls-up.

Have a good look around Money Saving Expert and try their forums. They`ve been very helpful in the past.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

I`ve just got my first bill in for my new apartment; £768 for 4 months!

It appears air con units cost a lot of money to run during the winter!!!

bloody hell, we used to run the aircon all summer, & they still owed us money once a year (used to pay £15 per week on a payment plan)

currently use around £12 per week & thats on a card meter..

Mum is with Npower and has been since 2008 on a prepayment meter.  About 6 weeks ago she got a bill saying she owed them £800 odd quid because they had the day rate and night rates the wrong way around.  She`s still arguing it, saying it was their fault as all we ever do is bung the key in and check the balance, but they`ve gone quiet at their end so either she`s won, or they`re getting ready to take her to court or something.

Seems a little odd to me that they would make that mistake in the first place and would then try to claim it back from the customer.

I hope you manage to get it sorted.

thats very annoying :(  imo the whole point of having a meter (by choice) is so you know where your upto money wise, & avoid big bills hitting you by surprise :/

I absolutely agree, and to be honest I would fight them all the way on it, getting Watchdog involved if need be.

I think all electricity companies offer a free monitoring device that they don`t directly publicise but if you dig around on their website you can find. It is a two part thing, one of which is wireless that you can sit somewhere comfortable and shows you usage in a more useful way than a number on a dial.
