Check out the Wharfedale, I own one and it is great value for money.

T2 (a problem disc) works fine on it. Best cheapo on the market, it may look like a 1980`s CD player but it is really packing where it is needed.

If you get a Wharfdale ... get the 750S ... plays all DVDs I can find without issues ... has a region-specific hack and can play MP3 CDs all for 180 ... not bad.

Picture and sound quality is more than enough for me.

I only have knowledge of the Alba 103. At first I thought that it was a bargain, however it has soooo many problems that I took it back five weeks later.

RCE incompatability.
Below average level of sound quality.
Columbia Tristar discs don`t work properly.
Tech support know less than me (I had to explain what RCE is!)
Pixelated picture - in Aliens the smoke looks utter crap.
Other discs such as Stuart Little, T2 UE et al don`t work properly.

I recently bought one of the new-spec. Scan players and I`m very pleased with it. A friend and I did a back-to-back comparison with his Wharfy 750S and the Scan definitely comes out on top. He has returned his Wharfedale to Tesco and has now ordered a Scan.
See my posting in the `Hardware` forum.

You must get an Azuda Logix 3000 - It`s fully multi region and you can easily disable the macrovision - It also has Dolby and DTS support, and is a lot higher quality than the other models you mentioned......
Picture is truly excellent.....go to www.ultravideo.co.uk and check it out..

Officially no you can`t get rid of Macro on the 750S, however I`m not having too much in the way of problems recording R2 discs to my Aiawa VCR from my 750S (connected via SCART lead)

Only visual impact is a very very slight change in brightness every 30 seconds or so ... unless you are looking for it you don`t see it.

The LG3200E from techtronics.com is multiregion and macrovision disabled. I have had mine for a few months now and have been very impressed by its quality. Might be worth a look.

If you are considering a cheap player, then Techtronics are offering the Pinoeer DV530 for £169+VAT (£198inc VAT) which seems like a bargain compared to other retailers.

I`ve got one myself and I`m more than happy with it.

My friend`s got the Wharfdale and he`s pleased with it but for some reason he is embarrased to own it. The picture and sound is good for £180.
