Accurate room thermometer

flyingmonkey (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 21st October 2008, 07:20

Hi all

I am wanting a couple of room thermometers but would like to know which type / brand are the most accurate? I currently have two digital and one red liquid type in the same place in my front room and all three give different readings.

Thanks

Nick

You need one that`s been calibrated.
We used one of these for our daughter`s nursery.

Forty quid is more than I wanted to spend but it is for the girls` nursery so I don`t suppose I can cut corners there.

Thanks, Bowfer.

Just out of interest, what is the need for such temperature accuracy in a nursery?

Our combi boiler has a built in programme and timer thingy with no thermometer just heat settings on a dial (1 to 4). Up until now we have used a normal room thermometer in the living room to try and gauge what to set the boiler to. However, after I put the thermometers in the same room I realised how inaccurate they may be.

Once the girls move into the nursery it will be that room where the temp becomes more important (babies rooms need to be kept at between 16c and 20c).

In the long term I want to get a wireless timer and thermostat for the boiler as I`d like the boiler to switch off when rooms reach a certain temperature rather than via a one to four setting on the boiler dial itself.

Thanks

Nick

why not just buy a baby room monitor with built in thermometer, we have phillips one and its great even has an alarm function if too hot or too cold... and plays music as well!

@V: See below. A hot baby can be at greater risk of SID (cot death). More info here.

Quote:
Babies who get too hot are at an increased risk of cot death. They can get too hot because the room is too hot or because they have too much bedding or clothing. The ideal room temperature is 16-20ºC.

Because, as the first post says, he wants an accurate one.
Your one may be accurate, but how do you know?
The only way is to get a calibrated one.

I only buy calibrated tyre-pressure gauges now as well.
You should see the difference in readings between it and other gauges. :/

I'm pretty sure that flyingmonkey would of bought one by now it has been 9 years since he started this thread and what a coincidence that you bought one from a company that has the same name as your user name here
