Ah you guys.. I know what you mean, i but t depends on where he does it.. i doubt that anyone in london would complain about being `vandalised` by Banksy..

Its a toughie though.. hmmm.. even london underground cleaners have guides to recognising banksys so that they dont clean them off.. they are worth too much to the city in terms of art, and - believe it or not - tourism..

I do like Banksy`s murals. I`d class them as graffiti art as opposed to just graffiti (tagging and so on). I picked up a book about graffiti artists and most of it was elaborate tagging in subways etc. I preferred the artists that went beyond that (like Banksy).

well then surely he must be some sort of a moron to be breaking the law (i am assuming at present he is not getting permission to do his thing otherwise this thread is pretty lacking in a point) and not getting paid for something that by your description he could get paid a shed load for by taking it to the relevant authorities and putting a proposal to them

banksy used to do throwups.. tag life grafitti, but changed somewhere along the way.
he has done album covers = the scratch perverts, and Blur, and, something for greenpeace.
he also did some stuff in the swiss embassy in london..
He`s been a bit of an underground legend in london for a while, and picks his target spaces quite well I think...
I like the easy to miss "this is not a photo opportunity" that you find around town..

So its alright for him to break the law and deface the property of others without consent then???

If your answer is no then I do not see how his stuff can not be plain and simply graffiti

(NOTE : I am again working on the assumption that he does not at present gain the authority of property owners before producing his work)

there are lots of types of graffiti..
what about the political(esque) pieces he (and others) does (do)..? I dont say that they are very strong politically, but they form a kind of protest. is that just vandalism again in your opinion?

What it you did not happen to like it and it had no value. Would you still be happy to have it on your house?
