Royal mail issue video game stamps.
They really like Lara Croft. Surprised to see Dizzy on there.

just asked my mum to carry on collecting first day covers for a little bit longer, I think she said she was going to cancel it after the recent Star Wars ones :)

There are some iconic games there that people under the age of 30 will have no idea what they are! But they also probably don't buy stamps.

Good point, well made.
Agree that the choice of Dizzy is an odd one though. I'd have gone with Manic Miner, Chuckie Egg or even Monty Mole...

Maybe Dizzy was chosen since the creators are still around working in the games industry? Dizzy really put Codemasters on the map.
Chuckie Egg was big, , Manic Miner/Jet Silly were as well - but they didn't launch a software company company, as their developers disappeared for years :(
Monty on the Run was pretty big at the time, and I remember Gremlin had other good games like Jack the Nipper, but they didn't survive after PS1 era did they?
I think Populus is the only game there I haven't played! Well I haven't played all the Tomb Raider games, but I've played a bit of some of them, never really got into them, preferred Res Evil on PSOne.

I find the lack of Mario strange too. Tetris, even.

Royal Mail has revealed a set of 12 stamps that celebrate the UK’s contribution to video games.

And you expect me to read it all too!!
In fairness, the 'UK' bit isn't prominent in the main header or second one - 'celebrating the world of gaming'. Obvious when I look at the list now though - and Manic Miner is a strange omission indeed.

Bitmap Books helped them pick and choose, they also released an Oliver Twins book, so maybe they are a bit biased. ;)
I think it's a good choice though, it was a big seller and had a much longer life as a series than Manic Miner.

It was amazing at the time, Peter Molyneux invented a genre! It's really dated though, the view port is so small. :(
Considering you can only pick a limited number, it would never be right.

Probably the game I actually played the most on the Amiga...
