Best Commodore 64 arcade games?

Robee J Shepherd (undefined) posted this on Wednesday, 20th April 2011, 18:29

I managed to get VICE (C64 emulator) working nicely on my arcade cab (where it is sitting nicely alongside MAME, Daphne and Stella) but since I was very late to the C64 game (tended to play round friends houses as a kid and borrow one occasionally) I don`t quite have the knowledge of the best games that will suit the arcade cab experience.

So far I`ve got it set up for...

Wizball.

That`s it. :( Problem is as its a cab it has to be joystick only games, as I don`t think vice even lets you map keys around so it can`t use anything but a joystick really.

Any suggestions from an old C64 devotee?

I can`t remember which games needed keyboard input or not, I think most of them must have used keys for selecting options after loading...

But games I recall that were fun, after going through Wiki getting my nostalgia buttons pushed...

Cybernoid 2
Uridium
Speedball 2
Pitstop 2
Nebulus
1942

Cheers for the effort, I`ll check some of those out. Others I recognise from the arcades so obviously aren`t going to get played when I could play them on MAME. :)

I`d forgotten about Cybernoid tho, and Uridium! Actually I seem to remember some side scrolling shoot-em-ups that were great on the C64, but I can`t remember their names. Might have to google!

International Soccer reminded me of the fun we used to have with Microprose Soccer and it`s banana kicks. When you turned them up to the max they`d do 360s!

What about Paradroid?  Awesome game, one of my all-time favourites...

Dizzy - platform game from Codemasters and Eggcellent sequals ;)

X-Out - brilliant side scrolling shooter
Xenon - scolling shooter music by Bomb The Bass I remember!

I had them on my Amstrad but I`m sure they were on Amstrad, C64 and Spectrum

I remember Armalyte, that was brill.

It also had a cool game to play while the tape was loading, almost as much fun as the shoot-em-up itself.

Zzap 64!!! my brother used to get that. Mullet-tastic.

Was Spindizzy C64, or was that Amiga?

Who was that geezer who was obsessed with llamas and put them in all his games?
