Mary Elizabeth Winstead is looking more like an Alien-era Sigourney Weavery with every movie.

That said, this format is getting kinda tired. After Bourne & Wick, someone had the idea of leapfrogging from Nikita & back into the female unstoppable hit'man' genre. Atomic Blonde, Gunpowder Dynamite, this. Style over substance only works when there's heart behind it, and this looks a bit formulaic.

That said, Mary's fighting style seems a lot more visceral and realistic than past efforts from Theron & Gillan, rather than going for slo-mo & arty angles, it's just bottles-in-the face from a profile shot, which is nice.

I take it back. Very enjoyable, albeit with a bare-bones plot, but a style that served the story, rather than trying to overpower it (referencing Milkshake again).

I had a fear that the Style over Substance mantra would lay heavily on this one, but it really isn't that bad. The pink neon car scene is mercifully short, and the teenage actress, Miku Patricia Martineau, really has some depth, despite threatening to be 'that annoying one' early in the film. She's hardly acted before, but she's really good.

One detriment is that the twist regarding

Woody, acting to type

Is so obvious that when it comes you're just annoyed no-one else in the movie saw it coming.

But it's Mary who holds the film together, and I really stand by my Sigourney Weaver comparison I made up there. She's about the same age as Sigourney was in Ghostbusters, so as long as she's not too typecast, she's got a very long career ahead of her. Plus she's shacked up with Obi-Wan kenobi, so she's got the sweet Disney+ cash to fall back on as well.
