The Next Starfighter?

This is exciting. Johnathan Betuel, who co-wrote the original Last Starfighter is on board and enthusiastic about a sequel, which will be “a movie with all the bells and whistles, and it won’t presuppose that you’ve seen the original film. There’ll be references here and there, but it’ll carry the saga forward.”

Possible downside: Seth Rogen might be involved..

I hope it doesn't turn into TRON Legacy.

I liked it as well, particularly as my son and I watched it on Christmas Eve in a screening where we were the only attendees.

I don't have a problem with the story of TRON Legacy, I actually haven't seen the film in its entirety. It's the effects shots. The original TRON has an 8-bit charm to it, the early CGI coupled with the hand drawn animation truly looks like the vision of the inside of a computer. The visuals in Legacy on the other hand look more like another world than an inner space. You got stuff like mtion blur and reflectiions and all this visual tech that we take for granted in modern day graphics that it started looking more 'real'

That's the thing with The Last Starfighter. It too might have had cutting edge visuals for the mid-eighties, but it's stuff that a twenty year old PC graphics card could do, let alone a modern RTX beast. It looks very much of its time. The tempation will be to give the sequel a modern CGI polish, and get that wrong, and you might as well have a Star Wars dogfight scene.

The last starfighter was a totally forgettable fim, I did not even remember the title never mind the film till this thread started up.

I had to look up an old trailer to remember what it was about. Wish i had not LOL.

I am si-fi daft and see all si-fi film, but you do get ones like this that is better to total forget instead of total recall.

Maybe the new one will be memorable :D

I remember the title, but remember next to nothing about it, I think I liked it though as a kid.

Krull I'm sure was brilliant when I was a kid, when I "made" the missus watch it when it was on TV a while ago, I had to apologise, as it was bad, I had only remembered a small bit at the end, and though that was more frequent :(
