$th August release date in UK
10th August here in Australia

Going to see this one here in Sydney as 5th element was brilliant, and it looks on the same lines as the film Immortal by Enki Bilal, which has a similar 'comic book/weird aliens/futuristic cities' type of film.

Saw this today and enjoyed it, CGI made the movie look luscious, the many many different alien races were fun, leads were sickly sweet but had a good chemistry so you do root for them and the reason they are doing what they are doing, bad guy obvious as the day is long and as for Riahanna ....well just WOW!! her scene was the sexiest thing iv seen on screen since Jessica Rabbit, damn the girl has moves :) was worth the entry money just for her and the 3D worked well with this particular movie. WWAW but not a classic from Besson.

DoG posted a luke warm review, saying the plot went missing in action but was visually spectacular...

A classic example of why effects should be in service of the plot, not the other way around.

I intend to see this because I like Luc Bsson's style, although it seems dated in a weird way from what I've seen so far. More 90s than anything. Can't wait to see it though.

Still alive and kicking. You can't get rid of me that easily!

On the radio the other day you could tell the film was more style over substance, they way the DJ was praising how beautiful it looked, but didn't praise the film, they had one of the stars in so had to be diplomatic I guess ;)

Mbilko says....as for Riahanna ....well just WOW!!

Have to agree on of the best scenes in the film. Even in her blue alien gungy octopus look, she was sexy
Yes, saw the film yesterday, so that's today for you folks in the UK, confusing Yes,  as it came out a few days earlier than expected. Lunchtime viewing seems more popular over here as there were at least 20 bums on seats, most of them looked bums, which is about 300% more bums, than when i go same time in UK cinemas

As for the film, the opening scenes was a CGI feast of an alien planet, very visual indeed, and CGI tended to be the best thing about the film.

Downside was really dismal acting, from the main two characters, right down the line to the supporting mob. In fact Riahanna shone out the best, so that's really saying something, it was as though everyone was reading from a script, DOH!, just no enthusiasm, Could have done with Bruce Willis, or at least some well known actors to spice it up a bit.

Think I would still buy it in DVD though, just for the sheer spectacular CGI.

Been looking at Besson's French film history since watching above movie, and decided after seeing a trailer to order an interesting one off Ebay, called The Extraordinary Adventures of Adčle Blanc-Sec where the story is based around a young Victirian woman's fantastical adventures in London and then Egypt, and its full of prehistoric reptiles, ugly actors, mummies and magical rites. Tell you later what I think about it. Film was distributed in 2010.
