Disney's Moana

Decided to take yesterday off and take my daughter, and her boy and girl to the cinema to see this film, as they had been on about it for months.

First of all its not just a kids film it is also suitable for adults, as in typical Disney style of movies.

This is definately one of the best of the most recent disneys, and nothing can be faulted about it,  other than being a rather short movie, about an hour and a half, though it does come with a short film before it, to give a longer time in the cinema.

The story, the CGI, the characters, the fun, the excitement, and even the music is superb.

The main character is Princess Moana, who is desperate to go to the ocean, but her father is against it. She decides to find the demi-god that has put her island in trouble, and heads for the sea. These main CGI characters are very well drawn indeed. In fact there has been a lot of work put into all the characters in the film.

The music, well its not up to Frozen standards, and I am not one for a song that tells the story in words as it goes along, and there are a few of those, but the Maori South seas music is brilliant, and you get a few hairs on the back of the neck rising moments.

The fun characters are a mad chicken and a cute pig (for the kids), the baddy which is a lava monster, is typically a rather frightening disney monster, where you have to tell the kids during the film that it is going to be beaten by the good characters.

Visually the film is stunning and camera angle work is well worth seeing, with kids or without. Only downside is its shortness in length, but long enough to keep the kids happy.

It was a grand day out with expensive popcorn :D

Outstanding moments...
SPOILER:
An outstanding moment is the young girl walking into the sea, and the sea pulls back for her to walk on the sea bed, visually stunning. There are many of these superb visual treats in the film

That's you and Mark Kermode then, he really rates it as well.
I don't follow him in the Guardian but the weekly 5Live spot with the always annoying Simon Mayo.
I have to say from the posters and short promos it looked distinctly missable.
I'll have to add it to the list, though probably for when it's out on DVD.

Well I had to go being a grandfather duty and all that (showing my age here), but was pleasantly surprised how good the film actually was, and you leave the cinema into a drab, cold and wet December day wishing you could be on a sunny South sea Island beach instead, or in my case an Australian beach would do fine

I need no prompting at all for those thoughts.
