Just finally got around to watching the shawshank redemption and whilst i reckon it`s an excellent film i still feel that the green mile beats it.

Hmm I will have to see The Green Mile then, because I rate the Shawshank Redemption as one of my favourite films of all time.

Of course I really dont think it is a good idea to put both films into competition with each other, its a bit pointless and silly. Rate them on there own merits kids!

I would have to agree with the threads title. I finally saw The Green Mile last weekend and thought it was a wonderful film, while The Shawshank Redemption is merely `very good` in comparison. It is strange that both were made by the same director and from original stories by the same writer.

The book (or books) of The Green Mile are excellent - the film stays pretty close to the book, which makes a change, and the ending is good for a Stephen King (so many of his books - and films - are let down by crappy endings: The Stand, for instance - "It`s you!"). I`ve only just started reading the Shawshank Redemption (actually called `Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption), but apparently that stays fairly close, too.

Incidentally, anyone seen a film called `Apt Pupil` - another King novelette? Excellent film - worth watching.

SHAWSHANK RULED. I ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. GREEN MILE WAS GOOD BUT NOT THE KIND OF FILM YOU CAN WATCH ALL THE TIME.

Shawshank Redemption is by far the better film - I cannot believe that not only was this thread started but people actually agreed with it!
Still, takes all sorts I suppose.

I just thought that the Green Mile was the better film.Though I agree that it`s a bit unfair to compare them in as much that Green Mile is a supernatural/science fiction type film whereas Shawshank is more real life based.
They do both kick ass though.

No competition. Shawshank one of the top films ever. Green Mile was good but nothing special. Same director, same author, both set in prison but there is no comparison.
