The GOLD BOX at Amazon.com - some neat stuff.

Hi!

If you ever purchased anything from Amazon.com (the US site, not the UK one), look at the upper right corner of the screen when you visit www.amazon.com . You should have a gold box (with your name on it, after you log in) that gives you great discounts on up to 5 random products each day. The only catch - you only have 60 minutes to order the suggested product once you see it. Plus, if you order the product, you can`t even see the rest of the products.
During the last 4-5 days (since I found out about this), I`ve been given discounts to kitchen tools, digital cameras and stuff I didn`t really care for. However, I read that many people also got great discounts on DVDs.
Finally, today I got a great price for "Star Wars I - The Phantom Menace" - 6.14 US$ (instead of 20.58 US$), so despite the fact I`m not a fan of the series and that I didn`t plan to buy the 2-disk set, I simply couldn`t resist it for such a price. :)
Other people got "Vanilla Sky" and "Molholland Drive" for similar prices (around 6 US$).
You might as well try your luck with it.

Nice one, cheers.
I managed to get the Memento LTD ed for around $6 today.
Already got the R2 version, and am a bit worried about it being RCE but I just couldn`t turn it down.

Does the gold box only work in Netscape?? Can`t seem to see it in IE??

It works both on Netscape and IE.
Here`s a method I found to FORCE it to show up on IE:
1.Go to www.amazon.com.
2. If the gold box appears - click it. If it doesn`t, sign in (either by clicking "my account" or by clicking "recommendations". The gold box should appear right after you log in.
3. If it still doesn`t, use the "delete cookies" button in
TOOLS --> INTERNET OPTIONS (right after you`ve logged into the site). Now, after the cookies are deleted (notice that you lose all you coockies), refresh the page (by using shift+refresh on IE). The gold box should (finally) appear.

This procedure worked for me and for a friend of mine. Let me know if it worked for you too. :)

Regards,
Zvi.

P.S.: Memento LE for such a low price is not a bargain, it`s the mother of all bargains!!! :) Lucky guy. :)))

Are they based on past orders do you know? I`ve only bought stuff from the uk one..
Where exactly does it appear? To the right of view cart - wish list - YOUR ACCOUNT - help?
Does it show you one and then stop if you decide to buy one. works every day?

btw johnboy.. I`ll have memento.. i`m actually looking for it...
do you think it`s based on a past order?

SJ, yes it does.
See here:"If you ever purchased anything from Amazon.com..." (from my original message).
It doesn`t matter what you purchased, as long as it was on Amazon USA (and not UK).

Zvi.

If for example i choose to buy a digital camera or dvd player, is there not an import duty i have to pay? I heard that I am allowed upto £18 before I have to pay import duty, is this true?
