RE: Shaun of the Dead R1

I have definitely read somewhere recently that there will be extra stuff on the R1 DVD that is not on the R2 DVD and this does not include the bleeped words being back in the commentary.

RE: Shaun of the Dead R1

Actually it has been mentioned by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg that there will be stuff on the R1 DVD that was not put on the R2 DVD due to the fact that these extra bits would have bumped the DVD up to an 18. So the R1 could certainly be the one to go for especially if the video quality is superior to the R2 as well.

RE: News on definite changes to the original Star Wars trilogy... (spoilers!)

In the commentary for ROTJ, it is explained that the reason for Anakin appearing as his younger self at the end is because this is how he was before the power of the Dark Side corrupted him. That`s why we get Hayden Christiansen instead of Sebastian Shaw.

RE: Chistopher Eccleston is Doctor Who!

Well I like the costume personally, for one thing it has not got those annoying question marks that plagued the entire JNT era and for another it is not as flamboyant as the previous Doctor`s which is a good thing. The pics of the filming look really interesting and of course it is confirmed that Episode 1 will feature one of my favourite enemies SPOILER:
The Autons
.

RE: `Apollo 13` UK Region 2 DVD - 6 minutes shorter than Region 1?

All R1 DVD movies are in fact running at the correct speed and are the same length as they were in the cinemas both in the US and the UK. R2 DVD`s as already explained run approximately 4% quicker than R1 and therefore are quicker than they played in the cinema. The pace of R1 movies is therefore not off as the previous post states, they are in fact running at the correct speed and should really be viewed this way. Another reason why I find R1 superior.

RE: NEARLY THERE........What`s missing from the DVD Catalogue, now we have Star Wars????

Aren`t the SE/Director`s Cuts of the Lethal Weapon movies already out. Certainly I have seen them in various shops.

RE: Special Editions/Directors Cut Vs Theatrical Editions

Kill Bill, Volume 1 does not have a different version at all, it is the true uncut movie which was able to be shown in the far east where the censors are not as squeamish as those in the West. The colour sequences are as Quentin Tarantino shot them and as they should appear. For the release in the West, Tarantino was forced by the censors to have the scenes where there are excessive amounts of blood in Black and White and also make cuts to those scenes deemed completely inappropriate.

RE: The final end of the Daleks (TM)?

The BBC are certainly not trying to scupper the new series of Doctor Who. If they were they would not have appointed someone of the calibre of Russell T Davies to oversee it or even consider casting a serious actor like Christopher Eccleston in the lead role. It is disappointing that the agreement to feature the Daleks has fallen through but Doctor Who can easily survive without them and when the Terry Nation estate see this then I firmly believe that they will approve a deal to see the Daleks return to the series.

RE: SCHEDULE CHANGE 24 on at 10pm tonight not 9pm; Cold Case on at 11pm tonight not 10pm

As the football was total torment (just knew that England would lose) I turned over and watched 24 at 10 instead. Much more entertaining than watching Beckham and co lose on penalties as per usual.

RE: The Star Wars Trilogy DVD Box Set Trailer - Awesome, spine tingling stuff..........

Exactly, there has been no official confirmation from George Lucas that these changes have been made to the films again, just rumours. Yet people have been very quick to slag him off yet again for making these further changes when they really don`t know the facts. Personally I never had a problem with the SE`s and I am really looking forward to getting this box set in September.

RE: Big Brother

So it was a rant, but it certainly provoked a reaction. As I said I hate all reality TV with a passion because it smacks of cheap, lazy programming on the tv companies part when they could be providing us with classy intelligent programmes like we used to get. The sad fact is people will watch this rubbish simply to have a laugh at the sad people who have put themselves in the public eye and to me this does not count as entertainment at all. But hey I must be in the minority because everyone else on this thread seems to be watching it.

RE: Big Brother

Big Brother like all reality tv is a waste of space, pure tripe and typical of the tv companies thinking nowadays. BB is cheap, lazy programming featuring a bunch of no hopers who want their 5 minutes of fame but really don`t deserve it and yet people are taken in by this sheer mind numbingly boring rubbish as if their lives depended on it. Gone sadly are the days when we had intelligent programmes on tv, now all we get is this tripe. >:(

RE: Come back Bonnie Langford!!

The only Doctor to wear a hat and scarf was the fourth played by Tom Baker so don`t know why people are picking up on this all the time. I will reserve judgement on this new take on Doctor Who until I have seen it, until then I live in hope that it is going to be superb.

RE: Come back Bonnie Langford!!

I`m going to trust Russell T Davies` judgement on this decision as I thought the casting of Christopher Eccleston was inspired and he obviously believes that Billie Piper is the right actress for the role of Rose Tyler. She was quite good in Canterbury Tales (not great) and apparently she was very good in that drama on BBC2 during the homeless season (Bella and the Boys). I just hope that ginger haired no mark Chris Evans does not get involved in the show now that his wife is in it.

RE: Return of the King already for sale. WHV not happy..

What do you mean no point having the same film twice. The TE and the EE are very different entities indeed and both imho are worth owning. Saw this today for the first time since December and I must agree with the other poster that this is still a fantastic film and on DVD you really get to savour the more emotional aspects of the film. Despite being the longest film of the three this certainly flies by at a terrific pace.

RE: CHAMPIONS 2003-2004

Congratulations to the Gooners for a fantastic achievment, easily the best side in the country this year but unfortunately still not good enough in Europe.

Personally I don`t think Chelsea are blending as a team and with more changes and a new manager next season I think Arsenal and Manchester United will fill the top two places just don`t know which way round yet. By the way I support none of the clubs mentioned.

RE: Reservoir Dogs: Which Region is better?

The original R2 release is superior because it has an extra line of dialogue that has been cut out of the R1 and the new R2 release. Not sure which line it is but this is what I have heard. Not seen the film for a while so will have to dig it out and watch it again.

RE: LOTR - Two Towers. Which region?

There is no DTS on the 2 Disc LOTR DVD`s in any Region, this only appears on the Extended 4 Disc editions.

RE: Is there any post today?

I wasn`t blaming DVD.co.uk for the delay, only wondering why as they knew a strike was on they did not use alternative means or post the parcels outside Oxfordshire. My uncle is a postman, has been since he left school over 50 years ago and he says that he is just waiting until he retires as he has seen the Royal Mail going down the drain over the last few years. He is very bitter about the way he has been treated recently seeing as he has given the company such loyal service for all this time.

RE: Is there any post today?

Mark, the postal strike in Oxfordshire has been going on since Tuesday 30 March and has spread from the original action at the main Cowley sorting office to two other offices. Apparently it is all down to bullying at the Cowley office and the other depots have now come out in support of them. There is virtually no post going in or out of the county and little headway has been made in reaching an agreement so I don`t think we will be getting our Buffy sets for quite some time. Personally as they knew about the strike action I think DVD.co.uk should have made alternative arrangements to get there parcels shipped as they knew full well that it would not get to their customers very quickly. I for one am very annoyed.

RE: Is there any post today?

If your expecting anything from DVD.co.uk, don`t go holding out any hope for a delivery because there is currently an unofficial postal strike going on in Oxfordshire which has caused a massive backlog of post. It does not look like being resolved for quite sometime either judging by the news items over at the BBC`s website. I`m waiting for two parcels from them and am becoming very annoyed that this has happened. >:(

RE: Matrix Revolutions

Fullscreen was sent out towards the end of last week by Movietyme, Widescreen was sent out on Monday so should be here by the end of the week at least.

RE: Alias S2

Season 3 R1 is out in September. Looks like the packaging for R2 Season 2 is different to Season 1. Glad I went for R1 as both boxsets are more or less the same (three DVD amarays containing two discs each inside a slipcase - Season 2 has a rather snazzy sleeve that slides over the slipcase).

RE: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - May 25th

Personally I will be getting both the TC and the EE as I have done with the previous films. Can`t say that I really noticed Saruman`s absence in the TC and I think the right decision was made because PJ wanted the audience to concentrate on Sauron being the main villain for the final film. Will be interesting to see Christopher Lee`s scenes though in the EE. As for which region, it definitely has to be R1 because I think the presentation is much better from New Line than it is with EIV. You get the lovely coloured box (blue for ROTK which means it`s blue for the EE) and I also think the inlay is of a better quality than the R2 version. Plus I anticipate getting the DVD a few weeks before the actual release date.

RE: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - May 25th

Scoring for the EE of ROTK is slated to begin this week apparently and yes Weta are currently working on the effects for the EE which is going to take quite a while. Couple this with all the documentaries and the commentaries that will feature and I think November is actually a very realistic date and I would rather wait the extra 3 months to see a finely polished DVD than something that may not be quite as good if they release it in August.

RE: Blakes 7 Release - Delayed...

I have it, but like many others are reporting there is a major authoring fault with the discs. Basically they freeze at the layer change which occurs about half way through the second episode on each disc. The people who authored the discs are working on them in order to fix it for the next batch of discs and there will probably be a swap programme for those of us who have got the discs already. Mind you not all machines are suffering from the problem but a great deal of them are.

RE: GOOD SHOWS BEING CANCELLED!! (i`m sick of it!)

Buffy was not dumped. SMG and Joss Whedon both decided that they wanted to finish after Season 7 and so the decision was made to end it then. Don`t expect to see it coming back in a few years because it won`t.

RE: Sopranos Digipacks

There was no one-off special over Christmas in the U.S. Season 5 begins in the States this month and should be on E4 later on this year and C4 sometime after that. I have got all four R1 sets and they are superb and imho much better than the R2 versions (even though R2 has now got version which are closer to the R1 releases).

RE: Oscar Results!!

So glad to see that LOTR got the recognition it deserved, these awards were truly for the entire trilogy - a series of films that have re-defined modern cinema. The four hour extended version is going to be superb, if the previous two EE`s are anything to go by. I don`t think for a minute that the end sequence will be shortened, if anything it will be extended and quite frankly I don`t see the problem with it anyway, after all the book ending is even longer and an epic trilogy of this length deserved to have the ending it got.

RE: X-Files: Season 9 - gets a release date!

This is of course the R1 version, the R2 of Season 8 is out this month while Season 9 on R2 will probably be out in November. As someone who has collected the R2 sets, for continuity I will be going with the R2 as I can wait until then to get hold of it.
