RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

At least we now know the main vector of transmission amongst football fans.

RE: [VIDEO] Resident Evil: Infinte Darkness

I saw this, but I didn't want to risk trying it because I was worried the voice work would be as bad as the early video games. I might try it now, thanks!

"I can see how other athletes would be annoyed at the selfishness of one of their peers not getting vaccinated, but then again, maybe a lot of them think because they are (mostly) young, fit and healthy they don't need to worry, but with the figures so high over there at the moment, and the number of athletes who couldn't go last minute, or have been sent home, seems they should be."

At the top of the top level, perhaps they think being set back 2-3 days (maybe 4-6 in total over two jabs) that makes a difference. As the fittest people on the planet, they are not going to be a high risk of dying you would have thought. Also, they are tested as regularly as healthcare workers (probably more), so the dangers to others is maybe a lot less.

Clearly they are choosing to take this risk, but then considering the circles athletes mix in, well probably don't mix in since covid, they aren't exactly going to be bubbling with a care worker.

It's easy for us to judge and say, well it's just not right, but then this is their job and you can't say the jab has zero effect on their job when we know it can set you back a few days.

RE: Arsenal 21/22 season

Smith-Rowe signed, so glad all the advances from Villa were ignored.

Also, Covid means the team isn't travelling to America, which I'm glad about, we could do without the jetlag!

RE: [VIDEO] Coronavirus, anyone starting to get worried?

This More or Less special is worth a listen to whilst you wait for tonight's "Dominic Cummings points out how awful a person Boris is but still nobody will care" show:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000y49w

One of the statisticians in it has a model which suggests that we are just cresting over the peak caused by the recent raft if infections, but that the removal of restrictions will cause a second peak that either happens early August (in which case yay!) or late August (in which case definitely not yay).

RE: Anyone for a Steam Deck?

The more I think about this, the more I think this is basically a Switch for PC users. Who knows if there is a market for that.

Hmm interesting! I wonder what the Windows performance would be like, it's traditionally not been great for battery life.

RE: Anyone for a Steam Deck?

I think it's kind of interesting that for so many years there was a huge market for handhelds as long as they were by Nintendo (I guess because the audience is just not interested in the AAA style of games that Sony were desperately trying to get people onto PSP/Vita with), and has that really been filled by something as large as the Switch?

Has increasingly large mobile phones opened the door for people to accept something so large for mobile gaming?

I am definitely Steam Deck curious. I am not going to play Doom or Rage 2 on it, and being limited to Steam games makes me a bit of a sad panda, but I do have a lot of indie games on Steam I might play....

...for 30 minutes each before I got distracted.

Fell down a Netflix rabbit hole and ended up watching this documentary which doesn't go as far as the She-Ra reboot (honestly still recommending that show!)...

RE: OMG!! Brand new series of 'Monkey'....

I am two episodes in... so far Tripitaka and Sandy can act, nobody else seems to be able to act. Feels like it was made by the people who made Hercules, and I don't mean that in a good way!

Not sure whether to carry on or not. 😞

Anyone for a Steam Deck?

This is kind of interesting...
https://www.steamdeck.com/en/

Starts from £349, 2-8 hours of gameplay. I guess it's like a Nintendo Switch but for PC gaming.

RE: Post Trump fallout

Kremlin tried to help Trump win 2016 election:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/15/kremlin-papers-appear-to-show-putins-plot-to-put-trump-in-white-house

Quote:
The key meeting took place on 22 January 2016, the papers suggest, with the Russian president, his spy chiefs and senior ministers all present.

They agreed a Trump White House would help secure Moscow’s strategic objectives, among them “social turmoil” in the US and a weakening of the American president’s negotiating position.

In retrospect it's all pretty obvious, but you have to admire them for realising that driving wedges between populations reduces the power of the country on the world stage.

RE: Clarkson's farm

I've just finished this, and I really enjoyed it. Kaleb is the perfect foil and co-star and has just the right level of complete disrespect for Clarkson to make the show work.

Also it gave me an understanding of how difficult it is to be a farmer, and how reliant they are on things outside their control.

RE: Salary Cap

I don't like the idea, and the reason is it will just redistribute the wealth from the players to the clubs.

Are footballers overpaid? Yes, I'm pretty sure anyone who is a top rate tax payer and beyond is overpaid. That's capitalism, you don't get paid for how hard you work or how much you contribute to society, you get paid for how much you contribute to the endless generation of wealth.

However, football is one of the few international sports, maybe the only one, where the majority of people who earn the big bucks come from poor backgrounds. I find it hard to begrudge them for earning what they earn, when so many less talented and less hard working people also earn lots of money.

RE: Arsenal 21/22 season

I think this is different from Southgate's penalty for so many reasons.

Firstly the blame is not on one pair of shoulders, three of our team missed. So he's not being singled out.

Secondly, the support structures around these players are all levels of maturity above the practically non-existent ones back in the 90s.

Thirdly, in less than 12 months he'll be at another major tournament, which will be a good chance to lay any remaining things to rest.

And possibly most important of all, Saka has been so loved at Arsenal by the fans ever since he broke into the first team, just look at how protective we are over him, and how much we want him to do well.

Our first half goalie... I feel really sorry for him based on the Arsenal highlights. :( Looked like a career killing performance.

This doesn't surprise me at all, I've said it a few times that Russia weaponises social media to sow discord.

I'm glad that more Tory MPs are standing up to Boris' fake "war on woke" and realising the damage it is doing.

"continue to mask up and social distance before being pictured at Wimbledon or Wembley maskless in a large crowd"

It's outdoors, dispersal rate is much lower, not a lot of evidence that people catch Covid outside. It's generally in enclosed areas where it spreads significantly.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-55680305

I mean, okay, obviously you are celebrity classist and the science doesn't matter, all celebrities are the same, etc, etc. But you know... scape goat who you want to. It's clearly not a government that said no more than 6 people could meet up outside yet 30 people in a restaurant breathing the same recirculating air... that's fine.
