    Review of Ecstasy

    1 / 10

    Introduction

A budding director and his cigar chomping producer mate are looking to shoot a new film based on the semi-autobiographical account of an old actress. The studio will only bank roll it if the director`s wife will take the lead role, but it involves both nudity and sex scenes, something she has never done before. She is very nervous about taking the part, but the director is so caught up in the opportunity that he presses her to take it.

In the best (or not as the case may be…) movie traditions, Val (for it is she…) takes to the role like a duck to water. First her confidence blossoms when her photographer pal (Britt Ekland) takes some nude shots, but then things take a turn for the worse. Her first sex scene finds Val getting so turned on that she actually has sex with her co-star during the scene. She`s mortified but her director husband is focussed on making the film, not realising what feeling are awakening in his wife.

    Yadda, yadda, yadda…

    Video

Soft focus and blurred visuals in 4:3. Lots of shoulder pads and big hair.

    Audio

Dolby Stereo soundtrack that isn`t even worth mentioning really.

    Features

Some dull trailers for other films in this series. I`m thinking I may have gotten off lightly.

    Conclusion

For something claiming to be from the Playboy stable, this is one hell of a disappointment. Anyone expecting any sex will be lucky if they find more than 5 minutes footage in this. It`s a travesty. And it`s really really bad, not even saved by Britt Ekland`s dodgy accent.

This film has cliché written all over it. Doting wife who is sexually reawakened. Workaholic husband who can`t see what`s happening in front of his very eyes. Cigar chomping producer type. Despicable but seductive co-star who has sex with the star. I could go on, but that`s far enough. This is boring with a capital B.

What`s worse though is that there is a major error in the disc authoring. The film drops back to the main menu at the end of chapter one, and I checked this twice. That is unforgivable. It would be a major reason not to buy this, but to be honest I`m not sure that will be the primary reason in this particular case.

This is terrible. Don`t buy it, don`t even rent it.
