Miracles happen in the most unexpected places
Certificate: R
Running Time: 188 mins
Retail Price: $24.98
Release Date:

Synopsis:
Miracles happen in unexpected places, even in the death-row cellblock at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. There John Coffey, a gentle giant of a prisoner with supernatural powers, brings a sense of spirit and humanity to his guards and fellow inmates.

Tom Hanks leads a stellar ensemble (including Michael Clarke Duncan as Coffey) in this emotional, uplifting story of guards and captives; husbands and wives; prisoners and a remarkable mouse named Mr. Jingles; and, on another level, of a moviemaker and his source.

That filmmaker is Frank Darabont, who returns after his 1994 directorial debut The Shawshank Redemption to adapt another tale by Stephen King into stirring, crowd-pleasing entertainment nominated for 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Your Opinions and Comments

9 / 10
A masterpiece. Plain and simple - a masterpiece.
This adaptation of Stephen King`s novel is simply amazing.
The acting is superb, as are the plot, the visuals and the soundtrack.
The video transfer is excellent. The dark scenes are beautifully rendered with no compression signs at all. The colors are very distinct and always fit the atmosphere of the prison.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is excellent as well. There is some use of the surrounds, mainly to create echoes from the prison`s walls, as well as for other effects. The musical score is also very good.
The menus are rather simple. However, whenever you choose an option, an explosion is shown. I fail to see any relevance to the movie itself.
The extras aren`t that great. They only include a short 10 minute featurette which basically takes you behind the scenes. A lot more should`ve been put there.
Bottom line - a superb movie that will undoubtedly put tears in your eyes.
