The Deer Hunter remains an astonishing, powerful and vivid epic about three men, steelworkers from Pennsylvania, whose lives are changed irrevocably by the Vietnam War. When Michael (Robert De Niro), Steven (John Savage) and Nick (Christopher Walken) are captured by the Vietcong, they are forced to play Russian Roulette by their brutal captors, who make bets on their survival. The experience of capture leaves them with terrible physical and spiritual wounds and when Michael returns to Saigon to fulfil an old vow to one of his friends he makes an unexpected, horrific discovery.
Once seen, never forgotten, director Michael Cimino`s sensitive, painful and evocative film packs an emotional wallop and won 5 Oscars including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Christopher Walken, Best Director, Best Picture, Best Sound and Best Editing.

The Australian and American discs are terrible, so this is the only decent version avaible. It doesn`t seem to have the best source print for the Deer Hunter, the Transfer is pretty decent for a trhee hour movie. Do I need to tell you again that there won`t be film as good as this made in this decade...

The Deer Hunter is a great movie. There is only a few extra features but the Special Edition has just been released and is a two disc set and is better than this version.
