Great film on an OK picture with two good commentaries and one totally out of place rave/dance crap extra. Pitch Black is a great clone of Alien

I heard a lot about this film and have to say that I was impressed. First of all, do not expect a horror movie, there are no genuine scares. However, as a Sci Fi film, it is very effective. Considering the modest budget, the director has done a good job in making the alien world look and feel different. Clever use of filters and lighting make it visually stunning.
The unknown cast (though Vin Diesel is now well known) do their jobs effectively. As mentioned before, you will be very surprised by who remains alive. Vin Diesel is great as the anti-hero and though you never suspect him to be truly evil, he is borderline throughout.
Critics have mentioned that it borrows heavily from the likes of Aliens but so what? There's nothing wrong with using good films as inspiration. Pitch Black may not be original or scary but it is very entertaining and a must for DVD collectors.
The extras are sparse but a nice touch. The commentaries are quite interesting and informative. In summary, a good film that will gain from word of mouth and benefit from DVD's superior visual and audio.

This is a very cool sci-fi horror. The best of its kind since James Cameron`s Aliens. Vin Diesel is excellent in his role as bad guy who actually has the male lead role.
A spaceship carrying a very dangerous prisoner crash lands on an unknown planet. The planet has about 3 suns and so it is always daytime. They discover however that every so and so years the planet has a total eclipse and turns pitch black. They also discover that they are not alone on the planet. There are aliens who can only come out in the dark.

A very solid movie that delivers thrills and chills that I had not experienced from a movie in a very long time. The anamorphic widescreen picture is superb as is the DD 5.1 sound. The extras are quite decent but for this sort of movie, I would have liked to see more.

Overall this is a great movie to own and I would recommend it. However there is an unrated region 1 version which includes 3 minutes more so I would recommend that version instead of this region 2 version

Overall, this is a great dvd to own
