Selma is a Czech immigrant, a single mother working in a factory in rural America. She escapes the hardships of her tough life through the films that inspired her childhood. In her imagination she sees the world as an all-singing all-dancing Hollywood musical.

But Selma harbours a secret: she is losing her eyesight and unless she can save enough money to pay for an operation her 10 year old son will inherit her blindness. When a desperate neighbour falsly accuses Selma of stealing, her life begins to slip beyond her control and propels itself towards a tragic and numbing finale.

`Dancer In The Dark` is one of the most controversial films of recent years. It is groundbreaking, compelling and utterly unforgettable. Bjork`s award winning performance is guaranteed to provoke.

First of all, I have to admit that this movie is not for all people due to its nature and metaphors.

The DVD is packaged in clear-Amaray keep case.

It has animated menus (region 1 version does not have animated menus, :-) )

The extras include a quick access to the songs in the movie (and these are tracks that appear on Björk`s soundtrack - Selmasongs). There are some stupid extras such as very very short Cannes 2000 festival shot and an interview with L. Von Trier (the director). What a pity that Region 2 version does not contain the audio commentary with L. Von Trier.

Audio track is presented in DD 5.1 and the sound is gorgeous when you are watching the musical scenes. There is also an alternative track that is in fact an audio description for the visually impaired.

And there is the trailer of the film.

I am upset because region 1 version contains the DTS track as an alternative to DD5.1

Anyway, this is a sort of movie that most of the people have been waiting for, this is a movie that your eyes have been searching for...

Why did I buy this film? Why? And why did I buy R1. I can`t even take it back to the shop and get a refund! This movie is like wearing wet socks, irritating, damp and prone to giving you a headache! Everything else about the disc are superb, it`s just the film that sucks like a $5 dollar hoe!
