Review for Chimera

Its Tracy's first day at the Jenner fertility clinic and the head honcho promises her 'additional responsibilities' in the secret research centre. Everything seems fine until Tracy observes weird scientists doing weird things. When her emotionally shy and socially awkward boyfriend Peter tries to phone the institute, there is no answer. Arriving at the clinic, a secret military organisation stops Peter from entering the flame-riddled building. Something has escaped. Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen Gallagher (who also wrote the screenplay), Chimera is a well-developed four-part series with spine-chilling visuals, a hair-raising score, horrifying special effects and a bleak subject matter. This stand-alone show (with its insidious episodic nature) puts contemporary British TV to shame, its multi-layered story has depth, the characters are realistic and the genetic engineering theme is nerve jangling. Beware of Mr. Scarecrow; he will broadcast horror into your psyche!
