Introduction

In 1992 the Classic Marathon Rally celebrated its 75th anniversary and attracted a new sponsor, Mitsubishi.

Over several days the 95 cars raced from The Netherlands through Belgium, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Austria, over the Alps to the finishing line in Italy.

Classic cars, beautiful scenery and drivers including Stirling Moss and Gijs van Lennep feature in this 59 minute documentary.

Released by Isle of Man based Duke Video, a company with a history of producing motorsport titles, this is the first time the 1992 Classic Marathon Rally has been made available on DVD.

Video

Originally produced in 1992 by Pirelli, presumably on VHS, and given a straight video to DVD transfer, quality is surprisingly good. There is some grain and wobble evident, but nothing to get upset about - the cars look good and so does the scenery.

Audio

A decent enough Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack, with Richard Hay's narration providing all the information about cars, drivers and locations.

Conclusion

There's something great about classic cars that were build for style and speed, rather than safety and fuel economy. Ok, it's 16 years old, but it doesn't matter as this is all about the cars and many motorsport fans will be glad to see this title available on DVD.

This is one for enthusiasts who will love watching the Jags, MGs, Minis, Ferraris and Volvos race around Europe. Even I liked it and my interest in classic cars is moderate at best - my dad thought it was great!

The DVD can be bought from Duke Video.
