    Review of Pretty Woman

    6 / 10

    Video

Pretty Woman is split into 20 chapters across the film, and is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio.

The picture quality is acceptable – not stunning, but not bad either. The film is verging on 10 years old now, and this is the impression one gets when viewing this DVD. The picture is not quite as sharp as modern day DVD film transfers, and several scratches and the odd black ‘pop’ was seen, so the print used for this transfer maybe could have been better sourced.

    Audio

There is no Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack on this disc, only a Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo or ProLogic sound. I preferred to watch it in DD stereo rather than ProLogic, as this is not really a film that needs thumping surround sound. There are several well known music tracks of the late eighties on the soundtrack.

    Features

This is quite a basic disc, with static menus. The only extra available is an audio commentary from the director which is quite entertaining.

    Conclusion

Surprisingly the film stated that it was ‘edited for content’ at the beginning of the credits. I cant imagine what was cut out of it, or for what reason. After all, this is a Region 1 disk – not having been lacerated by the BBFC as Region 2 discs often suffer.

The film is watchable and entertaining, though I don’t know how often you would want to see the DVD after the initial viewing.

The DVD is basic, with the only redeeming feature being the director’s audio commentary.
