    Review of Kansas

    4 / 10

    Introduction

Another day and another MGM title. Anyone think that this one was released to cash in on Matt Dillon`s current success, or is that just being overly cynical? Of course it`s not!

The plot (what little there is) is outlined up above. A standard story of a pair of drifters who meet up and get up to no good, only for one of them to get second thoughts about their new life on the run from the law.....

    Video

Well, surprise surprise. It`s your usual MGM back catalogue anamorphic transfer, with the slight difference that this one is in 2.35:1 as opposed to the normal 1.85:1, but it still (surprise surprise) looks quite good on the whole with the odd nastier moment. There`s the usual little bit of dirt, dust and grain, but not masses. There are some good evocative colours, reasonable detail levels and good contrast. On the whole it`s ok for a back catalogue effort (these MGM titles are becoming so predictable).

At least the cinematography provides you with something different to look at.

    Audio

A DD2.0 stereo soundtrack, which is again not too bad, but it`s not always as clear and crisp as you would hope for. As with many of these catalogue titles, you can also choose from various other European languages. The score is particularly uninspiring.

    Features

    Nothing.

    Conclusion

Another day, another MGM back catalogue title, but this one doesn`t rank as one of the better films. It`s a predictable and dull story about drifters and trivial crimes. And then the posh(ish) girl falls for the drifter and he has to make his choice. Which will he choose? Oh, it`s so dull. You couldn`t care less about the characters and you`re just wishing for a Matrix style orgy of bullets to rain down on all of them....

I was expecting a predictable and dull film, and boy did I get it, and then some. A below average film on an average DVD. Not one to go hunting down even if you are a massive Matt Dillon fan.....
