    Review of Guy Thing, A

    6 / 10

    Introduction

A Guy Thing propels the charismatic charmer that is Jason Lee, from a promising comedic talent, to a headliner amidst a trio of Hollywood`s hottest young stars. He joins Selma Blair & Julia Stiles, in a movie which Jason Lee`s character is engaged to the former, but the morning after his Bachelor party, finds himself waking up in bed with the later. With a hazy memory of the previous night, Lee`s character learns he may have cheated on his fiancé with her cousin, from which point, all kinds of trouble ensue for the would be husband.

Sadly the box-office takings for `A Guy Thing` may suggest you won`t be seeing many Jason Lee comedies in the future, and he might go back to playing bit-part roles, which is a damn shame.

    Video

It`s not exactly on par with the standard of a high profile release, as whilst the disc features decent colours and a fairly sharp image, on occasions it can appear a tad muddy, while some grain and pixilation are occasionally present on parts of the set.

    Audio

Mainly dialogue driven, the audio track features the standard romantic comedy score and included songs, as well as ambient sound effects (rain, bar, street and traffic sounds) and some exaggerated surround ones.

    Features

It is this sector of the disc which redeems the severely average presentation aspect. The audio commentary featuring director Chris Koch, and his leading actors, Jason Lee, Julia Stiles and Selma Blair, is a terrific recording of mindless banter which ranks up there with some of the best tracks for a fun yet not so informative look at the movie.

Three featurettes are present, the first of which is about the film as a whole, whilst the second and third ones provide an amusing insight into bachelor parties. In addition there are seven deleted scenes, including three alternate endings, all coming with an introduction from the director. The scenes prove to be anything but make-shift for bonus content, and should certainly have worked in the movie.

The "fun facts" track is a lot of fun, as when turned on, it gives us a goofy insight with little bits of information relevant to the scene on show, similar to what you would find on VH1 over a music video.

Rounding off the impressive bonus material, there`s a hilarious gag reel, along with an interactive quiz, a behind the scenes picture gallery, and the trailer for the film.

    Conclusion

Jason Lee has had some pretty memorable bit roles, especially when you think Kevin Smith movies. A Guy Thing isn`t the breakthrough performance that will see him headlining a box office smash, but it follows the rules of a genre flick and ends up being mildly entertaining at worst. The presentation of the movie could seriously have been given some more thought, but you can`t fault the extra content. Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was, but I don`t think I`ll ever be going back to A Guy Thing.
