    Review of Day Trippers, The

    4 / 10

    Introduction

On the surface the marriage of Louis and Eliza seems perfect until she discovers a love note from another woman. She runs to her mother and father who determine they must get to the city to confront Louis. Going along for the ride are Eliza`s sister Jo and her would-be novelist boyfriend.

The rest of the film is following the family as they seek Louis. Packing the five family into the car proves to be a strain on all the relationships.

An independent production written and directed by Greg Mottola.

    Video

Having decided that the look of the film probably isn`t an artistic affectation I have to say its pretty poor. The colour is unnatural with certain colours such as red and green becoming overly bright and others mainly brown. It is not a very old film; there is no problem with dirt or grain. It`s just very soft and suffering from brown-out.

    Audio

Presented on Dolby 2.0 this is heavily dialogue based so pay attention. I had trouble hearing some of the dialogue and was reaching for the remote. Mostly interesting dialogue I felt it lost it a bit towards the end
The accompanying music is pleasant and unobtrusive.

    Features

    Just a trailer.

    Conclusion

This is a sort-of comedy that doesn`t quite finish on a satisfactory note. There are some good performances to savour along the way particularly Parker Posey and Liev Schrieber as her boyfriend who spends some time describing his novel about a man with the head of a dog.(no really, it`s good!)

Produced by Stephen Soderbergh and directed by first timer Greg Mottola, this is the nuclear family cracking up. The ensemble acting is fine and its enjoyable enough but don`t waste good money on this poor copy.
