    Review of Gattaca

    8 / 10

    Video

The video quality is very good on this DVD as can be expected from a new print. No faults were noted, and 28 chapters are provided on the disc.

    Audio

The opening title sequence is accompanied by a haunting music score, while generally the music throughout the film is powerful. The 5.1 mix is good, but there is not a lot of necessity for much rear channel action, as it is not really a boomy sci-fi movie with explosions galore.

    Features

The menus are static, and a nice collection of extras is available. Firstly you get both versions of the film (full screen and 2.35:1 widescreen) on different sides of the disc. The box claims the DVD has `Special Features` but you don`t know what these are until you give the DVD a spin. Does this mean one trailer I ask? No. You DO get the trailer, but also a documentary, some lost scenes cut from the released film, a poster gallery, and a photo gallery.

A good package, although a commentary would have been nice!

    Conclusion

Gattaca is a thought provoking movie set in the `not too distant future` where humans are genetically perfect and can be traced by DNA from any cell, finger nail clipping, hair etc. The film is interesting, if not overly exciting, and can be a little slow in parts, but overall enjoyable. Danny DeVito jointly produced this film, and his comments are included in the featurette on the disc.

The DVD is well featured, with both versions of the film, with a nice collection of extras.
