Review of Gimme, Gimme, Gimme The Complete Third Series

    5 / 10

    Introduction

Gimme, Gimme, Gimme is a sitcom based around Tom and Linda, the original odd couple. Homosexual Tom (James Dreyfus) is a struggling actor with about as much talent as a small root vegetable whilst Linda (Kathy Burke) is a sex starved nymphomaniac with about as much sex appeal as the afore mentioned root vegetable.

This disc contains all 6 epsidoes form season 3 - Down and Out, Lollipop Man, Secrets and Flies, Trauma, Singing in the Drain and Decoy.

    Video

The anamorphic transfer is fair bit better than I expected from a TV sitcom of this nature. The picture is sharp and detailed with the natural looking colours. It`s never going to compare to your top quality feature film releases but taken for what it is you won`t be disssapointed.

    Audio

The Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 soundtrack is fine. With the majority of the sound being dialogue it`s hard to either criticise or praise but what`s there is clear and audible throughout.

    Features

    Nothing at all, shame.

    Conclusion

There`s no denying Gimme, Gimme, Gimme is a funny series. The 2 leads put in marvellously camp and overblown performances that suit the subject matter perfectly.

That said it`s not the best Sitcom you`ll ever see and doesn`t really come close. The problem is that Gimme, Gimme, Gimme is all about innuendo and double entendre. The majority of the jokes hang off of them so as such you are bombarded . . . to the point where you start to groan more than laugh. With all the episodes being on the same DVD you are likely to watch a few episodes at a time and the net result might leave you feeling somewhat overwhelmed and all laughed out.

So to sum up this is a good quality disc let down by a total lack of extras. The series is good fun but I would suggest watching no more than one episode at a time else it can all become a bit too much.
