Review of Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh

    5 / 10

    Introduction

There`s the old phrase, if it ain`t broken don`t try and fix it! Well I consider the first Candyman celluloid outing to be well and truly shagged!
This obviously prompted the makers into thinking OK let`s try and fix this with an even more clapped-out sequel and then this monstrosity that even the employee of the month down at the local Quick Fit would never get running again.
The old bogeyman story is given a new/old slant and fails to scare. I even found myself laughing at most of the key blood, guts and gore scenes, which are way over the top and contain special make-up effects that would make Stan Winston turn in his grave, if he were dead!

    Video

The films bad, but the picture`s pretty damn good! This 1.78:1 anamorphic transfer is clean and bright. Colours are vivid and true with little to no edge enhancement. Blacks remain solid when required and whites are sharp with no smearing or halos. There`s a small amount of macro blocking on areas of solid colour but nothing to distract.

    Audio

Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks in English, French and Spanish are dull and flat to match the content. There`s no surround effects on this stereo mix which just shows a lack of decent production on a film that isn`t that old. A decent matrixed bass extension is also absent.

    Features

Oh Candyman, you are spoiling us with this theatrical trailer!

    Conclusion

A lacklustre movie with great picture but little else to reccomend it, avoid at all costs, unless you`re a fan of schlocky horror series!
