    Review of Baby Boom

    4 / 10

    Introduction

Baby Boom is a comedy about a high-flying business woman (Keaton) who inherits a baby which awakes her maternal instinct and changes her outlook on life.

    Video

Eurgh. It is disappointing to still see big studios releasing titles in non-anamorphic widescreen video in 2002 - in this case 1.85:1 - and as a result you`ll have to find the rarely used zoom button on your TV remote control.

The lack of resolution offered by the non-anamorphic widescreen format results in a soft picture, that is grainy and not at all impressive, with a lack of contrast and a washed out feel. This isn`t helped by some backgrounds that looks a little blocky and aren`t particularly well compressed and some scenes that flicker slightly. Not a very good show from MGM I`m afraid.

    Audio

The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0, and reproduces the sound adequately, but offers little of note.

There isn`t much other than the dialog for much of the film, and this is easy to understand.

    Features

In true MGM back catalogue fashion, the only extra on offer is the trailer.

    Conclusion

Overall, this is a very lacklustre release from MGM, with poor video quality, mediocre sound and no extras. In some cases, the content helps to outweigh these problems, but I found this movie to be tedious and really not my thing at all, and as a result this disc is a long way from receiving my stamp of approval.

If you want to see a move about a dull career woman who inherits a baby and her maternal instincts take over, I suggest that you rent this out, as it certainly isn`t worth buying.
