    Review of Heartbreakers

    7 / 10

    Introduction

I saw this movie in the cinema back in the summer, and decided to buy it on DVD.

The basic synopsis of the movie is Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt play mother and daughter, and go around putting on cons against various men that Weaver`s character marries and then divorces, taking all of their money and fleeing before they cotton onto what happened.

    Video

A good 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen transfer with one or two flaws but there are no compression signs and the palette is used well to depict the many colours.

The movie is fairly bright, and makes use of the many different locations. Heartbreakers is full of some great set-pieces, and the movie`s energy is constantly depicted on screen.

    Audio

A great DD 5.1 track, mixing a good soundtrack with clear dialogue. The surrounds are used more frequently than a dialogue-driven movie like this normally does, but it is very good, so no complaints in this area.

The movie is full of some great lines, and the script is always full of life.

    Features

A 10min interview with Hewitt (UK exclusive), theatrical trailer, TV spots, radio spot, photo gallery and the menus are animated with music and a few video clips. The extras are rather thin on the ground, as the interview isn`t that insightful and the others are pretty poor. The R1 version has deleted scenes and an audio commentary, and these are sadly missing from the R2 version.

It`s a shame that Warner haven`t made some more effort into compling the special features, as they are weak to say the least.

    Conclusion

Funny. Very funny. There are some great one-liners, some nice set-pieces and pretty good acting. Jennifer Love Hewitt shows off her brea...I mean, acting talent, and Ray Liotta and Jason Lee are good supporting actors. It is classed as a romantic comedy, and that`s what you get.

So overall, this is a great movie and a good disc. Most people have said this was a bad movie, but its not - underneath its glossy exterior is a good bit of escapism from the norm of Hollywood action flicks. Shame about the extras though.
