    Review of Twelfth Night

    7 / 10

    Introduction

I`m never too sure about modernised versions of Shakespear`s classic prose, that is until I bravely sit down and watch them with my husband, who loves anything by the Bard.

    Video

The picture (1.33.1 anamorphic) is cracking with blacks deep and solid and whites that complement to give an almost 3D depth. This added to the amazing canvas of bright and dynamic colour just simply astounds. This is no blockbuster but has been given decent treatment on its transfer. Don`t get me wrong this isn`t in the same league as a Phantom Menace transfer but it does look pretty damn good!

    Audio

The sound is a bit lackluster and thin. It`s Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 and fails to give the same sound depth as the picture. I tried cranking up the extra bass levels on my amp but there was little there to boost. I am a strong believer that bass is not just there for the big action fests, it ads a great deal of depth to the more quieter movie and enhances ambient effects.

    Features

Another trailer only DVD, when will they learn. That said this is enough for the average fan.

    Conclusion

A good rendition of a classic tale that gets only half marks on the production front. While time has been spent on the picture quality the sound leaves alot to be desired. But it will only cost you about £9.99 so should we grumble?
