    Review of Honeymoon Killers, The

    7 / 10

    Introduction

A sometimes haunting and chilling movie made even more terribly chilling by the fact that it`s true. Way back in the 1940s Raymond Fernandez and Martha Beck posed as brother and sister and went on a killing rampage. They are now immortalised as one of Americas most notorious serial killers.

    Video

This Anamorphic widescreen presentation is a step up the ladder from the earlier widescreen video release. The black and whites are now sharper and much more solid, but it is still difficult to see anything in the very darkly lit scenes.

    Audio

Quite a lot of distortion in the louder moments of this 2.0 mono track tends to be distracting after a while, but this is really a fault of the original recording and not the DVD.

    Features

The animated menus are nicely put together and easy to use. You also get a trailer and some nice photo gallery shots. These include stills from the book cover, film and the early eighties palace video cover. Also included is a trivia section and detail on how Martin Scorcese was briefly involved.

    Conclusion

A 1969 cult classic which is highly enjoyable on a very macabre level with great, unnerving performances by the two leads. It`s a shame the disc hasn`t been given the real prestige treatment in both the sound and vision department. These are the movies that spawned the likes of Silence of The Lambs and Seven and should be given the same luxury treatment.
