Review for WWE Super Showdown 2020

2 / 10

I am now utterly convinced that WWE are promoting these shows in Saudi Arabia so that they can create some of the worst PPVs and thus make every other show look amazing. This can be the only reason why WWE are continuing to produce these awful shows, which is a shame as there are some highlights in this version, but there is just so much awful stuff that they just don't make the show worth watching.

The Prestigious Tuwaiq Trophy Gauntlet Match between R-Truth, Bobby Lashley, Andrade, Erick Rowan, AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio could have been great. If I'm honest and R-Truth's performance is great, but the match was created simply for the ending and it just wasn't as spectacular as it should have been considering who was involved.

The Smackdown Tag Team Championship between The New Day and the reteaming of John Morrison and The Miz was fine and the two teams work well together. This was probably the best match of the night, but considering what is coming, that's not saying much.

Humberto Carrillo against Angel Garza is a TV match at best and nothing special. The Raw Tag Team Championship defended by Seth Rollins and Murphy against The Street Profits was not as good as I expected. I would have thought Rollins would have put on a better match than this. The usual Home Town match between Mansoor and Dolph Ziggler was the usual nonsense to appease the home crowd.

The WWE Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Ricochet was one of the best built matches to ever disappoint me so much in a long time. Ricochet's story about how 'Why not me?' who could defeat The Beast was great and though I never expected Ricochet to win, I did expect a great match between the two. What did I get? Less than two minutes of Ricochet being destroyed and made to look utterly useless. It was a waste and so pointless.

The Steel Cage Match between Roman Reigns and King Corbin was fine, but forgettable. Both work well together and the storyline was fine going in, it just wasn't very memorable.

Having the Smackdown Women's Championship defended is a pretty big deal and though it is still weird seeing the women dressed head to toe with no skin being shown at all, but Bayley against Naomi was fine and I have to admit I am enjoying the Heel Bayley.

Finally, the night ends with the Universal Champion 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt against Goldberg.

Sigh!

I understand that Goldberg is a massive attraction and I usually enjoy his SMASH style, but when you consider that Bray Wyatt's Fiend character had finally settled into an amazing run it is a shame they would throw it all away. I can't even begin to understand the thinking behind it.

Super Showdown was an awful show and not something that is worth watching. It's not the worst show they have done, but certainly not a good one, but thankfully WWE have the whole rest of the year to do a worse show. I'm sure they can do it.
