Review for WWE Elimination Chamber 2019

7 / 10

The Elimination Chamber is one of those PPVs that can often sell itself on one match. That match is the Elimination Chamber. This PPV had it’s moments and I must admit that I enjoyed much of what I saw here. Yes, there is much to moan about on the build
up to Wrestlemania, but this event was still pretty solid.

The first ever Women's Tag Team Champions were crowned in a tag team Elimination Chamber. This featured Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Naomi and Carmella, The Riott Squad, The IIconics, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville and Nia Jax and Tamina. This was a pretty
good match and I am glad of who won, though I thought more fanfare would be made of it. My worry is that apart from the teams in this match there are very few other teams in the WWE and it was never explained how the belts would be challenged across the brands.

This was followed by a great SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match between The Miz and Shane McMahon vs. The Usos. I expected McMiz to win and was so surprised by the outcome of this match. However, I could not deny how great the two teams were together.

I can’t make my mind up whether the 2-On-1 Handicap Match for the Intercontinental Championship between Bobby Lashley & Lio Rush against Finn Balor was a great match or not. My worry was it signalled a worrying trend of hotshotting the IC belt which had really
gained momentum in meaning something again. This was a good match, but a bit predictable.

Going into the Raw Women’s Championship Match between Ronda Rousey and Ruby Riott I expected more than what we got. Riott is generally regarded as a great worker and I expected to see a good match from them both. I did not get this and in fact the match was very disappointing. It was clear that Riott may as well have not been here and the match felt a little pointless because of it. However, the interaction involving Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair made it all the worthwhile.

The No Disqualification Match between Braun Strowman and Baron Corbin was so predictable it was painful and sad to watch. Shame as it could have been a great brawling match between the two.

Finally, we have the Elimination Chamber Match for the WWE Championship between Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston, Samoa Joe and Randy Orton. If it hadn’t been for the ending this would have been a great match. At times there flashes of genius throughout and then by the end the WWE did the worst thing ever... give the fans hope. In hindsight, this has paid off, but I still would have wanted to have the happy feeling now. Instead, I ended this PPV wondering what exactly WWE had in mind
and the answer was... nothing.

The Elimination Chamber had some great moments and set up some pieces on the road to Wrestlemania. However, I do wish that WWE would go back to doing the double sets for the single PPVs to make them feel a bit more worthwhile. There are some great matches here and both Chamber matches were definitely worth watching again.
