Review for WWE NXT Live: Liverpool Echo Arena

9 / 10

NXT is the developmental territory of WWE and we could argue that by having that connection would mean that they
already have a key to the golden city when it comes to promotion. If you have not seen their shows, go subscribe to
the WWE Network as it is one of the best shows that is on there and their PPVs often have some of the best matches
and wrestling in the world.

They brought the show to the Liverpool Echo Arena as part of their UK Tour and showed just why the future of WWE is in safe hands.

Matches:

1) Hugo Knox vs. Blake

This felt like an indy match or a dark match. It was very old school with a lot of dramatics that I haven't seen in a long time. There's nothing wrong with that necessarily it just felt a little odd. It was a fun match, lots of crowd interactions, but nothing special.

2) Bobby Roode vs. No Way Jose

Wow! Just Wow! No. not just because this was the first time seeing Roode in a WWE/NXT ring, but because we got to see Roode and No Way Jose dancing. In fact that was the good majority of the match. This was pure insanity, but it was peppered with flashes of brilliance from Roode showing why he was such a big deal in TNA. Their loss is WWE/NXT's gain!

3) Jason Jordan & Chad Gable vs. Sawyer Fulton & Alexander Wolfe

I had never seen these teams properly before, but both are great tag teams. Fulton and Wolfe feel almost like Demolition or Powers of Pain in the way they act and perform in the ring. However, American Alpha Jordan and Gable had the crowd in the palm of their hands. The chanting of the crowd became almost another star of the show and was a delight to hear some of the songs sung throughout this and other matches.

The appearance of NXT Tag Champs The Revival was great, thought it was a little disappointing that this didn't lead to another match.

4) Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Tye Dillinger

If I'm honest this match felt a little flat. The heat gained by 'Perfect Ten' Dillinger by wearing a Manchester United T-Shirt was a little cheap, but it worked and we hated him for that. However, the match (much like the first one) felt a little too much like they were following a wrestling script of moves. Granted it was still a great match.

5) Carmella & Bayley vs. Peyton Royce & Nikki Glencross

One of the best women's tag matches I have ever seen. All women worked really well together and Bayley proved why
she is so important to the women's division in NXT. As it was Bayley's birthday the crowd sang to her which was lovely and the whole match just worked. It was proof that Bayley does not need to be in the main event to put on a great match, though I do hope she is back in the title hunt soon.

6) WWE NXT Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Nia Jax & Alexa Bliss

I will admit that when this match started I scratched my head and thought 'Why is Alexa in this match?' However, as the match went on she showed that she could hang with the power of a Nia Jax and the athletic ability of Asuka. This is definitely a match that NXT should do on their next PPV show. The only letdown was that once Nia was taken down she almost became an afterthought for the match, but it was certainly a good match.

7) Shinsuke Nakamura & Finn Balor vs. WWE NXT Champion Samoa Joe & Austin Aries

Probably one of the best matches I have ever seen. When I saw it was going to be a tag match, I was at first a little disappointed, but all four made this match work. It was eerie and amazing to hear the crowd roar our Nakamura's theme song. Anyone who is sceptical about whether he has what it takes, really shouldn't. All four were amazing and everyone had the chance to show why they are the best in NXT.

Overall, the show was great. The atmosphere was perfect and the fact they more or less sold out the arena (with only really the top rafter seats empty) is a real testament to just how popular NXT is. We all know that if you are looking for WRESTLING then the place to go is NXT and this show proved just that.
