Review for WWE Best of Raw and Smackdown 2011

8 / 10

The Best of Raw and Smackdown 2011 is an excellent disk if you want to relive what WWE did during that year. Coupled with the Best PPV Matches set it actually works well and so maybe next time WWE will listen to me again and lose all the filler matches and the awful vignettes, add an extra disk for the PPV matches and there will be an overview of a WWE year that I can really get behind.Best of Raw and Smackdown 2011 is finally proof that someone in WWE is listening to me. I said multiple times that the shows just could not sustain a 'Best of' each and that they should combine them.

This is that set and it's actually not that bad. It's true that neither show have had a stella year and a lot of stuff is skippable. However over the three disks there is a wealth of great stuff to remind WWE fans how good 2011 was. The two people to sum up 2011 are Edge and CM Punk. Edge for his shock retirement and Punk for his amazing promos around the Money in the Bank PPV. Though these are great we also see the return of The Rock, the rise of Daniel Bryan a great new side (or sides) to R-Truth and the debut of Sin Cara. Over the three disks, which takes up over ten hours of footage, there are multiple matches and I would be lying if I said they were all great, but there are some great matches throughout.

Highlights from Raw include: Falls Count Anywhere Match for WWE Championship The Miz vs John Morrison 6 Man Tag Elimination Match John Cena, Randy Orton and Alex Riley vs Christian, R-Truth and The Miz WWE Championship Rey Mysterio vs John Cena CM Punk vs Dolph Ziggler There are others, but these are the ones that really stuck out from Raw. As for Smackdown, highlights include Steel Cage Match for World Heavyweight Championship Randy Orton vs Christian 2 out of 3 Falls Match Rey Mysterio vs Alberto del Rio Lumberjack Match Mark Henry vs Christian Mask vs Mask Sin Cara vs Sin Cara It is sad the lack of Divas and Tag matches as I can't believe that there was only one 'Best' tag titles or Divas match throughout the year.

The rest of the set is filled with vignettes and segments which range from the great (CM Punk and anything he does) to the painful (Triple H relieving Mr McMahon of his duties). At times they work and I understand why they are included, but at other times I just cringe at the bad acting.
