Review for WWE Survivor Series 2011

8 / 10

The Rock and Cena.

Two of the biggest WWE Superstars in the same ring, on the same team. It seems odd that they would team up before they step into the ring against each other at Wrestlemania but this match was actually an interesting way of using them. This event was pretty good. It had some good matches including an excellent classic Survivor Series match. I always enjoyed these elimination matches and its a shame that they can't for one year go back to this being the format for all of the matches as the first few Survivor Series were. However, one match was still better than none.

Dolph Ziggler vs John Morrison was nothing special, but certainly not a bad match as was Beth Phoenix vs Eve Torres. Big Show vs Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship was probably not the best match they have had and the finish wasn't great, but it wasn't unwatchable.

CM Punk vs Alberto Del Rio was better than I expected. This was mainly due to the fact I could watch Punk paint a fence and find it entertaining. I still don't enjoy Del Rio, but I had no issue with this match whatsoever.

The Rock and Cena vs R-Truth and The Miz was a fun match. I got the feeling that this was just a tease for Wrestlemania, but the match was still great and even though you knew who as winning there were moments when you had your doubts. What it proved is that after all this time away from the ring, The Rock can still bring it.

Survivor Series celebrated its 25th anniversary... of course you wouldn't know from the set. This is my only real gripe with this DVD is that there should have been a second disk of a 'Best of' or even just a highlight package. However, the event itself was great and I enjoyed watching most of it including the excellent Survivor Series match and main event. It's very rare that WWE make a tag match watchable these days, but thankfully this will go down as one of the better ones.

Survivor Series 2011 was a great PPV, I just wish more was made of the whole anniversary.
