Review for WWE Live in the UK: November 2010

5 / 10

Once again WWE returns to the UK and once again WWE have decided to package up the four shows recorded (Raw, NXT, Superstars and Smackdown) and release them. As with all of the shows they are great if you went to the event live, but for the casual fan there is really nothing here that makes them 'must haves'. I keep saying these should just be highlight DVDs as the full shows can be a little awkward to watch especially when some if not most of the show is dated and without the context it's a bit like watching a random Raw from... oh wait, no, that's exactly what it is like.
Raw as always is a mix of great matches, awful matches and some entertaining segments. Raw's Divas match which has the Divas dressed in Man Utd and Liverpool kits is fun for what it is, but still an awful match. Goldust vs. Ted Dibiase was pretty good for what it is and seeing Maryse twice in one night is perfect for me. John Cena vs. David Otunga could have been a great match, but was sadly a little pointless in the grand scheme of things. However, the main event is actually almost PPV quality with Randy Orton, R-Truth, Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry and The Miz vs. The Nexus and Cena as referee. It's a great match and really could have been a great Survivor Series elimination match.
NXT Season 3 had the gimmick of it be the search for a new Diva. And as with everything Diva related in the WWE, it looks great but is as entertaining as a headache. The show is an hour of nothing, with a horrible arm wrestling challenge, two horrible matches and a number of terrible segments, although it is a shame that the great Aksana/Goldust storyline was wasted on this show.
Superstars is essentially all the stuff that wasn't good enough for Raw and Smackdown and really apart from a good overview video of Kane's reign as champion and a decent match between Drew McIntyre and Kaval, but other than that there's nothing special on this show.
Smackdown is again a mix of good and bad and though I usually like this show for its focus on wrestling this was a rather bland run of the mill show. The Edge vs. David Otunga Lumberjack Match was not too bad, Dolph Ziggler vs. MVP and Kane vs. Big Show were both good matchs. However, everything surrounding it seemed a little lacklustre and no matter how many people try to explain the appeal of Alberto Del Rio I will say again... I didn't like it when JBL did it, and I don't like it when someone else does it either.
Throughout the disks there are also a number of the Stand up for WWE promos. These are interesting showing some of the wrestlers and their legacies or their experiences which are full of some great stories, though I'm not sure what we are supposed to be standing up for?
As with all of the WWE UK releases they include a match from one of the previous UK shows and to be honest these are starting to be the only reason why anyone would buy them. The match here featuring Kane and Undertaker from 1998 Mayhem in Manchester is great and I do wish that WWE would just release a set of all these matches as they are for the most part great. This match between Undertaker and Kane is a great nostalgic match when Kane was masked and seemingly unstoppable. My only issue is that the quality isn't that great for the video and it actually looks like a fan-made Youtube video.
WWE Live in the UK: November 2010 is not bad; it's just not something that everyone will enjoy. There are some good bits and some of the matches are actually pretty good. If you were at any of the shows it is a nice thing to reminisce with, but if you didn't it is just an odd set to have. Much like the Best of Raw's sets I do think that WWE needs to think about including just the good bits, but then I'm not convinced they would know what that is anymore.
