Review for WWE Hell in a Cell 2010

2 / 10

I remember in 2000 when the Hell in a Cell match happened once a year and was usually the end to all feuds. It was usually the last resort, what they went to when every other matchg had been exhausted and there was only one way to end it. I remember the look on Triple H's face when Cactus Jack announced their match at No Way Out would be in Hell in a Cell. It was like he had just been shown his own personal Room 101. Now? It's just another match. This annual PPV has made it just another thing that they and us should get used to. This year, I got to view one of the worst and one of the best Hell in a Cells I have ever seen. One involves Randy Orton and the other involves Undertaker. I bet you can't guess which ones I think are which. (I'll give you a clue, you're probably wrong.)
US ChampionshipTriple Threat Submissions Count Anywhere MatchDaniel Bryan vs. John Morrison vs. The MizI can't quite tell whether I enjoyed this or not. It was a great match, but at times it felt too overbooked and if it had been just the submissions stipulation between Miz/Bryan it may have been more satisfying. Still one of the best matches of the night and just a shame it wasn't given longer. WWE ChampionshipHell in a CellRandy Orton vs. SheamusI hate to admit this... but Randy Orton was great in this match. I'm still not sure I buy him as a good guy, but Sheamus is such a great heel that you can't help but route for Orton in this match. Not much use of the Cell, but that was good as they couldn't use all the typical Cell spots that are in every match. Altogether a great match, with a satisfying ending.
Edge vs. Jack SwaggerIf you were new to WWE and after watching this match were told that both had been World Champions and that Edge was considered one of the best wrestlers and heels in the business you would probably laugh. This was a horrible match by both and I'm not even sure why it was on the PPV as it's not even worth being given away free on TV.
John Cena vs. Wade BarrettWhen people do their top ten WTF moments of 2010. This is number one. End of story. It's funny, how once the match is over you almost forget the match because of the outcome. However, you should watch the match again as it is excellent. Despite being so new, Wade Barrett is able to hold his own with Cena and put on a pretty good and entertaining match.
WWE Unified Divas ChampionshipMichelle McCool vs. NatalyaYou know what I'm going to say, don't you? That the match is horrible. That the Divas are the worst thing on the PPV? Sadly, you're right. I don't care how many people tell me how they love the heel McCool character or how well she's improved, it's a bit like saying a punch in the face is better than a bullet in the brain. It doesn't matter how good LayCool and Natalya looks this was just another awful match and again did not deserve to be on the PPV.
World Heavyweight ChampionshipHell in a CellKane vs. UndertakerWhen you consider that Undertaker has been in more Hell in a Cell matches than anyone else, you would think he would know the ins and out of the match. More importantly, he would know how to put on a good match. This match? I'm not so sure about. I enjoyed watching it, but as the match went on and on and on and nothing really happened beyond stomps, chokes and punches you wonder how long they spent putting this match together? After the rather tame (but still enjoyable) match by Orton and Sheamus, I expected this to be the match flowing with blood and crazy stunts and chokeslams from the top of the cell. Instead we have a ridiculous ending that looked like someone has been watching old episodes of WWE from 1996? This is not how you end the PPV and when you consider the shocking end to the Cena/Barrett match, this was a bit of a let down.
Considering the ramifications that came from the Cena and Kane matches it is sad that nothing is included except for a very short (1 minute 12 seconds???) interview with John Cena and a rather pointless end of a match between Orton and Jericho, which was completely pointless. It's sad to say that Hell in a Cell 2010 was once again a mixbag of matches, however unlike PPVs that have come before, there really wasn't a lot to recommend from this one. The matches were generally average and though the Orton/Sheamus and Triple Threat match were great, the rest I could not consider PPV quality and does not add up to a DVD that is worth buying.
